In the Pentateuch, Genesis is the first book of the Bible known as “In the Beginning”. It has said that Moses is the author of these five books: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These books are also known as the “Laws of Moses”. Authors believed Moses wrote the Pentateuch because he was the only person trained by God to write a book. Any other person was not able to perform this job because of the lack of education the Hebrews had. The book of Genesis is a basic foundation for understanding the historical events that involves God creating the heavens and earth and all living things. To really understand what Genesis is informing some observing may need to be used to understand the content and style. This book contains a unity of narrative plot that takes the reader to the world in Egypt. It recounts past events that happened and indicate a historical impulse. There is no dramatic genre in this book. Of course, the book of Genesis is like any other writing it may have biblical history that is described as theological history. Confined in Genesis, is to provide a prologue and foundation to the finding of Israel. It later recounts to Abraham, how God guided his family as his special people. In the book you can find character such as Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Jacob just to name a few (DeCanio, www.bible.org). This book is divided into two important sections that can give background information of what occurs. In chapters 1-11, Genesis is described as God being the creator of the heavens and earth. Then the chapter is quickly switched to emphasize the sin and rebellion of God’s creatures. God talked about his judgment on the wicked earth. He sends out a universal flood to spare Noah and his family from the flood. Noah is known as a faithful man to God and his family. In this case, God wipes out the entire humanity with only one family being spared from this disaster. In chapters 27-32, here is when God makes promise to Abraham that he would have numerous descendants to form a mighty nation and a gift of land. Abraham would later lack in having confidence in God’s ability to fulfil his desire. By the time Abraham and his wife Sarah was older in age, they finally had a son named Isaac. After this, Abraham shows that he trusts in God completely. Finally, in chapters 37-50, God faithfully raises up and protects the generations from Abraham just as he promised he would.
