Over 11 million innocent people were murdered in the Holocaust. Who was responsible for all of this? Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany and the main cause of the Holocaust. He and his men killed millions of people in concentration camps including Jews, Gypsies, the disabled, and many more. Because of Hitler's actions over 11 million were killed, 1 million of them being children. The Holocaust was a horrible and wrong time and hopefully we will never have to experience anything like this again. There is a lot to learn from the books Night and The Book Thief,you can also get more information about the Holocaust by reading articles like the one I read about Dr. Mengele. Dr. Mengele was one of those doctors and mentioned in our class book, Night. He was an SS physician at the concentration camp Auschwitz. He did many medical experiments on the unfortunate prisoners at this camp. He was an assistant of Dr.Otmar von Verschuer who was a scientist famous for his research on twins. Mengele was also in charge of the selection at the Auschwitz camp, he would look for twins to experiment on. His experiments were very disturbing and hard to read about. Many of his experiments involved twins, giants, dwarfs and romas. Some of his most know and disturbing experiments were on twins. Some of his many twin experiments included trying to change eyes color, injecting diseases into one twin, surgeries without anesthesia and more. In one of his many experiments he attempted to change the twins eye colors. He would put drops or injections into their eyes hoping that this would change the color. As a result the twins suffered severe pain and temporary or even permanent blindness. There are many twins who survived these experiments and are able to tell their stories but reading them is painful. I still don’t understand why someone would want to hurt other people like Dr. Mengele did but then again there are a lot of things I still do not understand about the
