Poe and Byron are masterful at using vivid, descriptive language to develop the elements of Gothic Literature and instill a sense of fear in the reader. In the short story, “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, the setting was in a Crypt. In Gothic Literature the setting is usually in an uncomfortable location, like for example a creepy old mansion. Byron's, “The Prisoner of Chillon” the location was set in a dungeon, which today would be considered a creepy or Gothic location.
