Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. He died on October 7, 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland. The cause of his death is unknown. As a child, Poe had two siblings; William Henry Leonard Poe and Rosalie Poe. His parents had died three years after he was born. Poe was taken in by John Allan and Frances Valentine Allan. His siblings went to other families. John Allan was a rich tobacco merchant in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Allan wanted Poe to be a noble businessman, but Poe had other things in mind. Poe wanted to be a writer. His childhood idol was Lord Bryon. Poe would write and write showing little curiosity in the tobacco business.
