“Change is inevitable but growth optional,” is a quote from John Maxwell about how over time everyone changes although growth from old ways is only a conscious decision. I connect this quote to The Christmas carol by Charles Dickens, specifically the character Scrooge due to his change throughout this story. In the story, The Christmas carol Scroogeembarks on a journey with four ghosts: Marley, Past, Present, and Future. They teach ScroogeLessons about his personality and how he needs to be much less greedy and prideful and general improvement to himself as a person. As stated in this quote Scrooge is realizing that his actions in the past have had consequences. How this is shown in this quote is he is asking if the implemented Future is the true Future that will stay or if he changes his actions if it will change. This shows him realizing that his actions over time had consequences. It also shows that he was now ready to change, showing that this moment taught him that he needed to change and that his actions of negativity would hurt him in the long run.
