There have been experimental pits dug around the tomb but the tomb itself has never been excavated. By looking at the Roman Catacombs, it is seen that the past influences modern day activities. Relative dating does not provide actual dates for objects, although it can be used to arrange geological events. Through looking at strata it is able to look at timeline events and arrange them chronologically.
Waikanaloa Wet Cave is located on the north side of Kauai directly off of Highway 560. There has been some debate that the name of this cave was erroneously switched with the wet cave farther off the road called Waikapala’e. There is also a nearby dry cave called Maniniholo. Hawaiians believe that the fire goddess, Pele, gifted these caves to her lover but she later abandoned them when they became filled with water. There is parking conveniently located next to the Waikanaloa Wet Cave’s entrance.

This rare skeleton is not the oldest putative hominin, but it is the oldest known skeleton of a potential human ancestor. Ardipithecus Ramidus was found with most of its skull, teeth, pelvis, hands, and feet. This skeleton didn’t look like a chimpanzee, gorilla, or any of the closest living primate relatives. This revealed that Ardipithecus Ramidus was a new type of early hominin that was neither chimpanzee nor human. 47 researchers described how Ardipithecus Ramidus looked and moved like in 11 published papers.
Home to a large Pleistocene fossil site, Saltville, Virginia has revolutionized modern archeology. The locality is especially significant because of unique interactions that took place between animals and humans 15,000 years ago. There has been recent evidence uncovered that Paleo-humans and the mammals in the surrounding Appalachian region interacted and the humans relied on the animals for survival. The deep history preserved in the land of Saltville reveals a past ecosystem that drew megafauna to its locality. The region, rich with life, is the second oldest known Pre-Clovis site in the Americas, marking its significance in history and archeology.
Born in 1920 to a middle class family, Ray Bradbury went on to write and publish over five hundred pieces of literature. One of the novels he wrote was Fahrenheit 451, where he attempted to predict what the United States of America would look like in the future. The novel illustrates the idea of a totalitarian government that burned books to stop the spread of knowledge, by following the development of the fireman Guy Montag, one could recognize that the developments of Montag are similar to the freed prisoners in Plato’s Cave. In which, Montag overcomes the ideas an ignorant society. Plato’s Cave portrays prisoners captive in a cave and forced to look at the shadows projected on the wall in front of them for their entire life, until one of them is set free and allowed to make a choice: go back to the cave or leave the cave.
This skeleton, named the “Kennewick Man” due to its location in Kennewick, Washington, was the oldest, most well-reserved skeleton found in North America. Shortly after the remains were unearthed, controversy and debate surrounded the home and origin of the skeleton. “Archaeologist Dr. James Chatters, working on contract with the Benton County coroner, thought that the bones might not be Native American.” If this were proven to be true, it would cause massive waves in what we thought we knew about our science and history. Based on radiocarbon dating the Chauvet cave appears to have been used by humans during two distinct periods: the Aurignacian and the Gravettian. The cave is located in the Ardeche region of southern France, and it is known for the earliest and best-preserved figurative cave paintings in the world. What makes these cave paintings so unique and so special were how they were sculpted, and the patterns that were associated with not just this cave, but other caves in general during the prehistoric times. The most common stenciled arts in caves were large wild animals, such as bison, aurochs, deer, and horses. Many of these paintings were often associated with animals that were hunted by humans.

Book VII ("Allegory of the cave"), describes a scene carry out in a dark cave. In this scene, a group of human beings have been living in a cave since birth; they have never seen the light of day. These people have only focused on what is in front of them but never what is beyond what they can see, "chained, can't turn their heads." Behind them is a fire and behind the fire is a wall. There are various statues placed and manipulated by other people on top of the wall.
In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley presents us with a Dystopian society, for as we read, there is a revelation of the true nature of the society. The basis of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave is that the shadows in which the trapped conformists see are the flawed reflections of ideal forms, such as beauty. Within the society of Brave New World, the entire population appears perfect for they are manufactured to be that way, therefore, the ‘outsiders’ appear as the flawed reflections of their ideal forms, which is present in the Allegory of the Cave, as well as other similarities. Within the trapped society in the World State and Plato’s cave, there is a general origin of knowledge, since birth.
