It was the worst monstrosity in U.S. History. The Chicago fire was the worst thing that happened in U.S. history at the time. The fire broke out on October 8th and ended October 10th. For the people that live near Chicago it was a long two days. Everything that was in the range of the fire was destroyed. The center of where the fire was just ash and little debris. The area was for a four long and a mile wide. There was nearly 17,000 building that was destroyed from the fire. There were 100,000 people that became homeless for losing their house from the fire. Nearly 300 people died from the fire. The fire destroyed around $222 million dollars and in today's currency it is 4 billion dollars in just damages. It all begin in a small barn southwest of the city. No one know exactly what happened or how it started, but it was believed that a cow named daisy kick over a lantern, and it started the fire. But no one know how the fire started. The conditions in the city were very dry and before that they had a very long drought. Almost all the city was made of wood at the time and so it was very flammable. Strong dry winds blown sparks and embers to other buildings, and they started to burn. The small fire department acted quickly and got there very fast. But they were given the wrong address. By the time they got there the fire spreed to other buildings.
