After the amount of hours each group practiced was revealed, Gladwell states, “…the elite performers had each totaled ten thousand hours…the merely good students had totaled eight thousand and future music teachers had totaled just over four thousand.” (12) As much as this study makes his

To be a grass farmer means that one raises animals for meat, eggs, wool, etc.; however, the farmer views these animals simply as a single part of the food chain and sees grass as the “keystone species” in the whole process. The farmer Joel, in The Omnivore’s Dilemma” said he would even venture to call himself a sun farmer because grass is simply the way we capture solar energy. Grass is the key component of his farming because grass is the only source of food for the animals. A grass farmer believes in the advantages of grass fed meat and practices the strategy. In this kind of food chain grass is the base; then animals are added; the animals eat the grass; the animals produce (wool, eggs, meat, milk, etc); their wastes (fecal and slaughter) create a compost; which is used on the soil to grow grass that will continuously provide food for the animals and indirectly for humans.
Jazz has been around since the 19th century. But the most well-known jazz pianist is none other than “the master of swing”, Oscar Peterson. Peterson has been known for being the best jazz pianist of all time, being awarded the “Companion of the Order of Canada” and is the first African- Canadian to be appointed in the Canadian Music hall of Fame. Oscar Peterson opened up the path for people of colour to pursue their dream in the Jazz industry. Peterson’s accomplishments have had a big impact on his career, his accomplishments have also contributed to Canada’s history and lastly, his legacy impacted young people on starting piano and learning more about him.

The New York Philharmonic During the 1800s, New York City was rapidly developing. The refined arts, in the form of operas, painting, and music, were in their infant stages, but quickly growing. One of the major events of this time was the founding of the first symphony in the United States (U.S.) in 1842, the New York Philharmonic. Walzak, Magen Mr. Gibson Honors English 11 17 May 2023 Funding for the Arts in Public Schools Time and time again, school has been associated with one of the most influential times that a person can go through in their life. Throughout their thirteen years in the school system, a child grows and recognizes who they are, and who they are to become. Beyond education, schools offer a variety of activities and programs to help kids expand their horizons and be who they want to be, whether this includes sports, music, STEM activities, and more. Recently, however, many schools have begun to cut programs to save money, including several different music programs.

Self Reflection The topic of my group presentation was Comprehensive Musicianship. Comprehensive musicianship is a philosophy of teaching and learning music through music selection, assessment, analysis, outcomes, and strategies. The concept of comprehensive musicianship evolved from from various sources through the years helping shape music education as we know it today. I didn’t know that choosing this instrument meant that I would find a group of people so similar to me, so in tune with my every quirk. Even if fellow trumpeters don’t understand my Katherine-isms, they certainly—and wholeheartedly—accept them. With an instrument that pierces every melody, one cannot hide mistakes: trumpets are unabashedly themselves. I didn’t know I would be sitting in the back of the ensemble: when you’re far enough away from the conductor, you can just express yourself more. The poor flutes are tightly bound to the conductor’s confines, while trumpets can add their own flourishes—their musical identities—to the
Thus, there is a creation of this elite musical culture engrained into society and their values. More than two hundred years after the premiere of The Magic Flute, audiences and critics alike are concluding
I became a graduate teaching assistant for four semesters during my enrollment in the music theory Master program at Boston University. It was a rewarding job because I not only had a close working relationship with both of my supervisors, the distinguished composers/theorists Professor Samuel Headrick and Professor Vartan Aghababian, but also had many insightful conversations with them about various objects in music theory from a perspective of a composer. My job as a teaching assistant convinced myself that music theory was an integral part of a musician’s professional development, thus inspired me to pursue my education until PhD. I am striving to be an effective teacher for my aspiring music students. Conducting a research is a major part of learning music theory, especially in PhD level. I have prepared myself for that moment by conducting small researches during my undergraduate at Penn State and graduate study at Boston University.

Preparing the music teachers philosophically, psychologically and competently brought about many changes in the United States Education curriculum. While it is a fact that a music teacher must be equipped about music history, theory, literature, and the will to perform, it is also a necessity that they will give emphasis about the contributions of contemporary music and world music. Music have undergone decades of transition that greatly influenced the legality of music instruction. Bennett Reimer's 1971 clarified the relationship between aesthetic principles and music education and his subsequent monograph broadly influenced music teachers to legitimatize music instruction that was based on more deeply felt beliefs regarding the nature and importance of musical experience.
