Noted for her prominence in a number of Colorado’s climbing associations, Agnes Vaille was the first woman to successfully scale the east face of Longs Peak, which ultimately cost her her life. In James Pickering’s section of Western Voices: 125 Years of Colorado Writing, titled “Tragedy on Longs Peak: Walter Kiener’s Own Story,” the tragedy of Agnes Vaille is recounted by her climbing companion Walter Kiener, who had imparted the story to Charles Hewes. Kiener’s tale reminisces the harrowing nature of Vaille’s death on Longs Peak and the struggle to retrieve her frozen body, which resulted in the death of Herbert Sortland, the caretaker at the Longs Peak Inn. However traumatic this story, Hewes had chosen not to include it in his autobiographical journal that was published six years after her death. Detailed in Pickering’s report is the recovery of Kiener’s story, the nature of Vaille’s death, and who was responsible for Vaille and Sortland’s deaths, as well as the controversies surrounding each issue.
In the National Football League during the past two season there has been an ongoing argument and investigation that an football fan is either for or against. There are two different types of NFL fans, someone that is a fan of the New England Patriots or someone to hates them. On January 18th 2015, during the 2014-2015 football season playoffs the New England Patriots were playing the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game. The Patriots won the game 45 to 7 and then the controversy started involving allegations against the Patriots. It came out that the Patriots football were supposedly deliberate deflated during halftime of the game.
Past and Present: Consequences of Gene Forrester’s Actions Past events play a crucial role in deciding what present actions a character will make. One work where past events characterize what characters do in the present is A Separate Peace by John Knowles. The novel begins with protagonist Gene Forrester returning to Devon Preparatory School. As Gene walks the Devon grounds, he begins to reminisce about the school year of 1943 and the lasting effect it has had on his life.
After a sporting event, have you ever heard “We lost because of this person” or “It’s his fault we lost?” Well, this is an example of scapegoating. Scapegoating is the act of putting the blame of an event on to a specific person, or a group of people. Scapegoating plays a big role in some pieces of literature, especially The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The Crucible is about the Puritan village of Salem Massachusetts back in 1692, during the witch hunts.

A dynamic, or round, character is a major character that encounters conflict and is changed by it. Reverend Hale is a dynamic character, he undergoes a dynamic change throughout the play. Based on his transformation, Hale truly is a good man. In Act 1, Hale arrived in Salem to fix a "spiritual problem." He believed witchcraft to be very true and very prevalent in the area.
In 1692 hundreds of people were sitting in jail for being witches, but none of them were really witches. An author named Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible based of the true events of the Salem witch trials. In the play some girls get in trouble for dancing in the woods. They claim the witches were making them do these bad things. The girls accused a lot of people and got a lot of people of hang for being witches.
In the Crucible there are a load of conflicts and emotions but, there are three that really stand out. The three are the act of weakness, the act of courage and the act of the truth. These traits are shown all through the story and have a great part in what happens. The act of weakness may have been the most significant role in the story.
Reverend John Hale There are two types of characters in a story, dynamic and static. A dynamic character is one that changes drastically in a story. One dynamic character in The Crucible by Arthur Miller that changes significantly is Reverend John Hale. Reverend Hale is a dynamic character because of the major changes he goes through during the play. In the beginning of the play Mr. Hale wants to find all the witches, and wants them to confess because he thinks they are a sign of the devil.

In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch and his children Scout and Jem live in the prejudice town of Maycomb, Alabama. In the town they have many misconceptions of things such as Boo Radley, who has not been seen out of his house for fifteen years ever since he was caught causing a disturbance but the children soon figure out what really occurred after he got into trouble. As the story progresses Atticus accepts the request to defend a colored man named Tom Robinson which affects his family in multiple ways. Exotic animals are dangerous in most cases, but people can own them if there areas to keep them in and have some responsibility. It is legal if somebody wanted to own a wolf they could buy one in some places, but with a license and secured fences to keep them in to have more protection. The commentary “Let People Own Exotic Animals” by Zuzana Kukol, and the Article “When Wild Pets Get too Wild, Wolf Run Offers a Home Where They Can Roam” all support owning exotic animals as pets. People should own exotic animals under these rules and still be safe, it is our right. United States is a free country where there are rights for the citizens, so whoever owns these animals it is their concern.
Arthur Miller portrays the Salem Witch Trials as a time of intense fear spreading across the town of Salem, Massachusetts. The witch trials were told in the story, as group of girls who were acting as if they were possessed by the Devil and his evil spirits. So they could have certain people in the town convicted and killed. Arthur Miller displays to the reader that power has the potential for unbalanced corruption. Miller shows the readers, people who were previously powerless, who then receive power, tend to do awful things for personal gain.
A large topic of controversy, should Planned ParentHood stop receiving government funding? This has been a large topic in recent political debates and talks. Many people are pro-choice, while others are typically anti abortion. Those who are anti abortion typically men, or very conservative people. Should Planned ParentHood only be funded by private parties?
Then, Goodall uses the phrase "There are many ethical issues, which we seldom face up to, whenever an animal is killed" (paragraph 11,first sentence) he utilizes these words to empower and motivate the readers to think more in depth about the issue and also to make some changes. While Goodall states her point of view she builds a strong relationship with the audience. This text is extremely effective because it gives the audience and future readers a backdrop of trophy hunting. Jane Goodall does an excellent job in crafting her opinion to the readers, for she shows her sympathy and understanding of the issue through the use of
No matter who and where people are, they face hardships and struggle for getting better in this or that situation. Writers try to cope with their scuffles by writing. Writing is one way of pain relief and also connection with those who keep up with them and their work. One of such writers was F. Scott Fitzgerald who wrote the collection of essays; the Crack-up that mainly gives the impression of being a monologue starving to be a dialogue. The author used the technique of simply addressing his ideas to the readers by breaking the formality.
