Plagiarism is when you “draw any idea or any language from someone else without adequately crediting that source in your paper” (Harvard). Plagiarizing is a controversial topic between students, as well as politicians. Although, politicians are one of the leading contributors of plagiarism, I strongly believe that politicians have a big role in this topic because they occasionally rebut the ideas and opinions of others.

For example, they will include another author or politician’s quote in an argument and use it as their own. Sometimes they will take parts of others speeches and ideas and read them as their own or tweak them a little bit so others do not recognize it is someone else’s work. More importantly, I believe politicians plagiarize because they can be somewhat lethargic and strive to sound more studious than they truly are in front of the public. As a student I consider this unacceptable that politicians plagiarize because they are leaders of our society. As leaders of our nation, setting good examples is crucial. Often the consequences are different but they can be similar. For instance, if a high school student plagiarizes then most likely the student will get a failing grade. I also think there are different types of plagiarism when you’re including students. Sometimes a student will forgot the intext citiations but they quoted the line they copied. This is considered plagiarism but it is obvious that it was accidental. I don’t think they deserve to get in trouble the first time they commit plagiarism. But if a college student plagiarizes they will most likely receive a zero and get expelled from the school. The college student’s consequences are a lot more similar to a politician. A politician could get fired and get exposed to the world. Each politician that plagiarizes doesn’t exactly get fired from committing the act, but some of the consequences can be very
