Genocide have happened in the past and are one of the most serious problems when a genocide occurs. The biggest genocide known to date is the Holocaust, where the Nazi’s killed a lot of Jews. There are a lot of factors which causes genocides to happen. One of the genocides that is currently ongoing, is the genocide of Yazidis by ISIS. In this research paper will be focusing on the actions of ISIS and to see if it is genocide. There will be background information of ISIL and the Yazidis, and factors that led the ISIS to commit genocide towards the Yazidis. Al Qaeda has become its rival now. They had lots of money by pumping crude oil and selling it to markets in exchange for money to buy ammutations, supplies. They also got money by kidnapping and asking for ransom. Both al Qaeda and ISIS are a Islam extremist religion group. There are a lot of mass graves, up to 72, which may range from five thousand dead people to twelve thousand dead people.
The Yazidis is a group living in Iraq and Syria. It is a ethno religious group, which they believe in Yazidism and combines religions such as from Christianity, Islam, Judaism. They also believed in Shaytan, which the Yazidis refers them a peacock angel, and in the Qur’an refers Shaytan as Satan, which causes ISIS to believe that they are worshipping devils thus causing this genocide to happen. ISIS both bodily and mentally harmed the Yazidis. The killings of the Yazidis were one of the tactics to harm the Yazidis both bodily and mentally. It causes a lot of trauma to the survivors and it will be something they cannot remove nor forget from their minds. A tragic genocide like this also causes them to lose hope in life.
