Playing instruments changes the physical development of the brain. All experiences change the morphology of the brain. (Flohr 15) Changing the morphology of the brain is beneficial because when the brain is changing it is easier to manipulate. It is easier for the brain to retain information it receives during periods of change. There are different periods of learning, there is critical and optimal. During critical and optimal periods of learning, listening to music can increase the size of the corpus callosum. (Flohr 16) The Corpus Callosum is the part of the brain that connects the left side with the right side of the brain. Its function is to integrate motor, sensory and cognitive performances between the cerebral cortex on one side of the brain to the same region on the other side, when the size is increased, the job is made easier. Music is beneficial in many ways. When music has a presence in the classroom it helps children grow physically, it helps shape the brain and helps with many other bodily improvements. Music helps emotionally, when a student is more emotionally mature and connected it is easier for them to learn. Yet most of all music helps a child grow intellectually. It helps a student enjoy learning, be prepared to learn, and develop in so many ways. There are many arguments saying otherwise, but the benefits are too great to ignore. Music is an important tool and should be used in the classroom in order to help students grow to their fullest
