How is the United States of America the “greatest” country when they do not treat some of their citizens as humans? In both “Is it a Crime for a Citizen of the United States to Vote” by Susan B. Anthony and “Freedom or Death” by Emmeline Pankhurst, they both speak on what happens to them just because of their gender. Additionally, they both feel as if their country treats them as if they are not human beings. Both are effective in supporting their belief that women should have the right to vote. Susan B. Anthony is incredibly effective at arguing that women should have a right to vote. She states, “I stand before you to-night, under indictment for the alleged crime of having voted at the last Presidential election, without having a lawful right to vote.” This quote shows that women did not have the same rights that men had. Pankhurst states, “I am here as a soldier who has temporarily left the field in battle”. Since she was fighting for her country, she should be treated the same as the men in her country. It means that she could die for her country, but she cannot voice her opinion because she cannot vote. The fact that she is a soldier and cannot vote makes it worse.
