Brody Denno Mr. Whittaker English II 28 February 2023 Persuasive/Argumentative Essay Revision As stated by Arthur Miller in his book, The Crucible, from his character John Proctor, “There might also be a dragon with five legs in my house, but no one has ever seen it.” (Act III, Page 1094). This quote may not be so specific to Act III, but can relate to many things in history, including The Red Scare in the mid-20th Century, The Holocaust also in the mid-20th Century, and the Iraq War in the early 21st Century. When all of these events in history relate to the same topic of The Crucible, these could really show how history can repeat itself time and time again. In the Iraq war, people were being targeted for terrorism because of where they lived and the way they lived.They were avidly searching the globe for the terrorists, all the while killing innocent people and disrupting the Middle East. A presentation from Bonnie Baxley on prezi.com states,”Yes, much like the witch trials that spread through England and parts of Colonial America, there were many raids conducted against Muslim Americans because people feared that they would be terrorists like the four men who hijacked the planes.”(Comparing the Salem Witch Trials to the aftermath of 9/11 3). This piece of text evidence helps support my standpoint because it proves that like the Salem witch trials, raids were conducted due to hysteria of the Muslim-American race after 9/11. People can be innocently killed for things they have no power over, and it will all be found to be a mistake later within human history, but could not fix the present. The Salem witch trials can be similar to the Red Scare, Holocaust, and the Iraq war because of mass-spread hysteria and misfortune. To conclude, within all these events, people were targeted due to fame, wealth, religion, or race altogether, and supplied the hysteria around them with correctness rather than bringing down rumors among the common
