Today, there are many disabilities; both children and adults suffer from. Some are permanent while others are able to cure themselves and become better. When a parent discovers their child is diagnosed with a type of syndrome, such as a form of autism, they become overwhelmed and guilty knowing their children will grow up differently. The main character in the novel “The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime “Christopher, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome. Asperger’s comes along with a wide range of consequences. It affects yourself, but mainly the people you’re surrounded by. Family members may have a difficult time adjusting to the high demands of a person diagnosed with this symptom. When a situation occurs that prevents Christopher from leading his perfectly, organized life he has a difficult time reestablishing the stability. One of the biggest obstacles Christopher needs to overcome to accomplish his task is learning how to deal with social situations. As stated in the novel, he bends down and groans when stuck in a terrifying circumstance. His inability to converse with people puts a strain on his investigation (Sudden death of neighbors’ pet dog, Wellington). He was influenced to write a novel based off this investigation by his mentor, Siobhan as a simple writing exercise. Although, as he digs further into the crime he discovers more than he wants to know. While trying to reveal the truth, he embarks on a journey to a place he’s never been. Often people with Asperger’s dislike being in a crowded atmosphere and adjusting to abrupt changes. He faces two of these challenges during his journey to the big city, London, where his mother resides. Despite the confusing, frightening rollercoaster ride, he conquers his fears and learns how to deal with them rather than avoid the
