What makes a human being a human being is not the fact that people can walk on two legs, but it is the fact that people possess humanity which allows people to think for themselves, show compassion for others through a person’s emotions, and a person’s morality. The continued advancements in technology will cause people to lose what makes people who they are and not just hairless apes. The Dalai Lama when discussing the use of bioengineering and cloning brings up that “When I think about the various new ways of manipulating human genetics, I can’t help but feel that there is something profoundly lacking in our appreciation of what it is to cherish humanity”(The Dalai Lama 67) that when technology continues to evolve over time rather quickly the concept of a person’s humanity is not taken into account so the purpose of technology may seem to bring positivity, but in actuality brings in more negativity. Advancements in technology also causes future generations to lose their knowledge and wisdom because before technology people would have to go out and read a book and learn a lot of information to figure out the answer now a person can go on their phones and in five seconds have to answer without doing much work or really know much information. The purpose of new innovations in society should work with society making sure that a person’s humanity is still part of the person when dealing with advancements in technology. The advancements in technology allows people to do incredible things, but when considering these advancements as the Dalai Lama puts it people must have a "moral compass"(The Dalai Lama 69) when considering advancements in technology.
