There is a great variety of stereotypes. Some might be about race, or the different types of people that there are in the world. Some of these stereotypes might seem funny at some point. However, some can be very hurtful and cause a lot of damage to a person. Everyone has gone through the pain of being accused of having a trait of a certain stereotype, and knows how it feels to be on the other side of a wanted poster. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a successful novelist, wrote about her stereotypical experiences that she went through in her past years called “The Danger of a Single Story”. One of the quotes from her TED talk really caught my eye. She said that she spoke with a university student, and he told her that he read her novel. He thought that it was such a shame that all Nigerian men were abusers. She responded to the student saying that she read a novel called American psycho and was ashamed that all young Americans were murderers. She was just letting him know that what he said was wrong. You can physically hurt them or offend them with words. Judging people before you meet them can be very dangerous, because it can affect the relationship between you and the person, or it can make you look like a bully. Stereotypes are just judgments that people make about others. Sometimes they can be offensive or non-offensive. It just depends on how people take it. Everyone has experienced a situation where you have judged someone, or was the one that was being judged. I think that it would be better if everyone actually got to know the person before they say something about them. By doing that, it would make everyone’s lives so much easier, and there would not be so many unfair and cruel judgments. That way we can stay away from hurting people and change a person’s point of view towards
