When I received my first phone, I remember never being able to put it down and kept texting for hours on end. It was wonderful, having the ability to talk to people without meeting them in person. Fast, instant, and easy, texting seemed perfect since it allowed me to be comfortable and connect with people regardless of the distance put in between, but an event happened that led me to the realization of the negatives of texting. When I started to feel uneasy and anxious talking to people face to face is when I realized that texting has been deteriorating my ability to converse with people in person. Texting seems to have this effect on most people because it becomes very easy to talk to people while not actually meeting them. It feigns and mimics face to face conversations making it seem like the connection between people are strengthening and becoming more familiar, but in reality it causes people to be more detach from each other and makes it easier to put up a façade that makes it look like they care. …show more content…

Texting doesn’t allow much emotion to be conveyed thus losing an important aspect in conversations and speech. Without emotion, talking becomes mundane, banal, and boring. The cadence and tone of a sentence that is said paints and allows more information to be relayed and expressed. Talking without emotion is like painting without color; the outline is there but there is nothing to make it unique and meaningful. It is also similar to sheet music without anyone to play it. People might say that emoticons can do the same thing, but it’s like trying to condense our multitudes of hues and variation of colors into three main colors and saying there’s no difference.
