The Sam Sheppard case is a very interesting one. Sheppard heard his pregnant wife call his name so of course he went to her and when he got upstairs he got knocked out. When he woke up he chased a tall bushy haired man and got knocked out again this time the man was gone, so Sheppard went back to his wife and she was dead, stabbed 35 times. Sheppard was then charged with the murder of his wife. I believe the Sheppard case was so famous and interesting to the public because a pregnant woman got stabbed 35 times which I don’t think is that common and there was so much speculation on whether or not Sheppard actually committed the murder.
This brings into question the severity and extent to which Robert Harris should be held accountable for his actions. There are two different ends of the morality spectrum through which Harris can be found guilty: moral responsibility and criminal responsibility. This is where the different theories on moral responsibility truly come into play. While none of these philosophical arguments would hold up in court, it does make the decisions made by Robert Harris seem much more complicated than it first appeared. The criminal justice system is based on a libertarian train of thought.
