The Bill of Rights was created for all citizens to be guaranteed the protection of basic rights. However, this was not situation regarding Sam Wardlow’s case. Mr.Wardlow was arrested on September 9, 1995 by Officer Nolan. Sam Wardlow was seen standing next to a building holding an opaque bag. According to reports, Mr.Wardlow looked in the direction of the officers and began to run.
In February 2014, Steven Farmer was convicted of sexual assault, and various other charges. The charges stemmed from his actions while working at Centennial Hills Hospital in 2008. He was accused of sexually assaulting two patients. He was found guilty of the sexual assault of those two women, as well as indecent exposure and open and gross lewdness for his behavior with three other patients. He was sentenced to 30 years to life, and is currently serving his sentence at Ely State Prison.
The case I chose was the Casey Anthony vs. the state of Florida was a criminal case in which the state of Florida accused Casey Anthony of murdering her two-year-old child Caylee Anthony. On on July 15, 2008 Caylee Anthony was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy Anthony. On July 16, 2008 Casey Anthony was arrested and charged with child neglect. On August 28, 2008 Casey Anthony was released on bail per ABC News. It was held in a Florida state trial and then in trailed again in a Florida district court of appeal.
Bryan Dixon is a second year law student at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the same school in 2013. Though raised as the son of a judge, Bryan’s initial interest was not in law. Bryan was initially on the path to a career in civil engineering. However, Bryan’s creative mind and interest in solving problems between other people brought him back to the field of law.
Const. Brian Davy Toronto police officer linked to a highly-publicized case involving a group of officers who have allegedly perjured themselves. Const. Brian Davy plead guilty to the charge of professional misconduct because he knew of the fabricated lies his partner told in a court testimony and did not report it. The fabricated testimony secured a guilty plea in the matter and resulted in the accused being incarcerated for a period of time.
Karla Faye Tucker killed two people in 1983. Tucker confessed to the crime, and was executed in 1998. The interesting thing about Tucker’s case, however, is that she claimed to have turned her life around while in prison. She was no longer using drugs, had found religion, and had even gotten married. But none of this was enough to change her sentencing from execution to life in prison.
The Gainesville Murders were a popular case that involved plain view searches. Five students in Gainesville were murdered from a stabbing. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this case and how evidence was obtained. Danny H. Rolling, who was sentenced to the murder of these five students, believed that evidence was obtained in an unlawful way. Mr. Rolling also believed that he was wronged in countless ways during his trial.
On September 13, 1983, Delbert Bakers was found dead at the school of cosmetology he owns in Auburndale, Florida. Bakers suffered three gunshot wounds and throat slashed. During the early stages of investigation, a witness claimed that Baker was seen with two men shortly before being murder. Police didn’t consider taking the tip seriously since the person was a convicted felon with prior history of drug abuse and was also a police informant. A $5000 reward was posted for any information that would lead to the suspect behind the murder of Delbert Bakers.
The media influenced the case on more than one occasion and more than one level; in such instances as newspapers had already convicted Sam before the trail began. Gossip about Sam Sheppard's personal life especially his infidelity made it into the papers. The reporters seemed to act more like contemporary gossip columnists. The relationship between the media and the police officers, how they worked in conjunction with one another. This posed as a huge issue for the case because the media portrayal helped to convict Sam Sheppard.
Scott Peterson was convicted of the murder of Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner Peterson. He has been on death row for over a decade as he tries to get his conviction appealed. Peterson and his family maintain his innocence, even participating in a docu-series titled, The Murder of Laci Peterson. This has caused quite a stir among viewers who now say they have doubts about his guilt. Could Scott Peterson been wrongfully imprisoned for so long because of circumstances he had no control over?
PTSD can be triggered by something extremely petrifying for someone. Johnny has the symptoms of PTSD from when Bob beat him half to death. This is shown when Johnny freezes in fear after seeing Bob's rings. PTSD stands for post traumatic stress disorder. One side is Johnny should not be convicted of murder because he is innocent and the other side is Johnny should be convicted of murder because Johnny is guilty.
The evidence behind this can be a contributing factor as to why Sam Sheppard is innocent. Author of the article Did Sam Do It, Douglas Linder explains about the Eberling confession. “Kathy (Wagner) Dyal, a former nurse's aide to Ethel Durkin, who was murdered by Eberling, a former window washer for the Sheppards, testified at the civil trial that Eberling revealed to her that he killed Marilyn Sheppard… He told me that he had killed her and that he hit her husband on the head with a pail and that ‘the b**** bit the h*** out of me’ “ (2). As shown in the text, Kathy Dyal had stated that Eberling had confessed to the murder of Marilyn Sheppard.
Three murder case studies will be presented and compare here: Marian Bates, Martha Moxley, and Elizabeth Short. Marian Bates was a 64 year old Nottingham Jeweler who was murdered in front of her husband, Victor Bates, and children. Peter Williams, a 19 year old drug addict was released early from prison and was supposedly under “intense supervision”. Williams removed his tag and violated his curfew. He and an unidentified gunman who is still at large, raided a jewelry store on September 30th 2003.
