Amanda Ripley argues in her article, The Case Against High-School Sports, that American high-schools should concentrate less on sports and more on education. One of the main points of the article compares the academic success of American high-schools to that of high-schools in other countries. The other main point of the article compares the academic success of American high-schools affiliated with sports to those that are not. The results of the two studies are both shocking and expected at the same time. America is one of the most affluent and demographically developed countries in the world.
Most schools in America are given a low budget for their school system. With this low budget the schools do not have money to keep up with the rest of the world. For example, some schools have an old building, but, there is no money in their bank account to remodel. This means the football and baseball field is outdated, the track is messed up, and the structure of the building is in low condition. If the school doesn’t have money for the building, what about the important things.
They can't afford the school because they were given a restrictions. Then the schools can't stay within the budget without going over.lastly they have to reduce staff and if that doesn't work then they have to close down the school. So i dont see how they are charging people when it states in the Michael P. Auerbach, a journalist, researched “every child has equal and free access to quality education, and equal opportunities to take part in activities, clubs and other programs”. So it states that every kid that want to play sport should but the cost of the school
Conner Stripling Lowe Paper 5 Why Benjamin Barber's Argument in "America Skips School" Trumps William Henry's Argument in "In Defense of Elitism" In today’s society, it has become the norm for adolescents to choose where they would like to go after they graduate, seeking further education.
Food has become part of our social status. Those who have money get to enjoy healthy organic options, while those who live on food stamps and low incomes get sugary packaged foods that are harmful to the boy. In “What Food says about Class in America,” Lisa Miller, a healthy food enthusiast and a bystander to the food problem, effectively captures the American people’s attention through descriptive imagery, alluring metaphors, and academic diction, but contradicts herself and fails to convince her target audience of the food corporations that a change is needed. Opening her article, Miller describes her family’s breakfast habits to relate herself to the people. She begins the article by saying, “I usually have a cappuccino mixed with organic
The next part of the film that shocked me was even though segregation was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court some schools, mainly the schools in the Deep South, avoided desegregation. In Arkansas, the Little Rock school board delayed integration for three years. The Arkansas Governor continued to resist integration by sending the Arkansas National Guard to stop nine African American students from entering the newly integrated Little Rock's Central High School. These students became to be known as the Little Rock Nine. This force President Dwight Eisenhower to respond by sending federal troops to protect the nine black students.
I find that this school is slacking in areas that could be easily fixed. For example, the school lunchs are complete wack. They don 't taste good and the portions are terrible. I feel like I 'm being ripped off. I wish they 'd allow us to bring food back into the school/classrooms.
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
Additionally, budget cuts for public schools happen every year, that creates bigger class sizes but not the sufficient teachers or rooms to provide a proper academic environment.
Also, there needs to be a major education reform budgetwise. Public schools should be abolished and the government should just give people a certain amount of money and they can choose which school to use it on. Education should be left to the private sector because they do it best. Taxpayers who pay to go to private schools should not have to pay for public
Americans, when they think of Civil Rights probably think of the Civil Rights Movement. During the civil rights era African Americans fought to be treated as equals by fighting segregated schools, for their voting rights, and for their basic right that every American has today. To say that education is our civil rights movement of today is inaccurate. Antonio Alvarez’s narrative “Out Of My Hands” focuses on a financially struggling family, but proving that they can succeed. David L. Kirp’s article “The Secret to Fixing Bad Schools” reinforces the idea that even though a community might be poor, that doesn’t have to reflect the quality of education students receive.
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
If you have ever been in sports or school athletics, act fast! Schools are getting rid of their sports and we need to stop it. “Being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school.
Although, many options exist and no matter where you stand on the issue on how to educate our youth or children, all the funding should exist even more so in our public schools especially in the early years pre-k and kindergarten or elementary school students. This is so important because even if people are all for charter schools, private schools or home schools; those special students will eventually have to work and live next to majority of the students who went through public schools and it is very important that the public school kids get the absolute best guidance through their early years. If we do not give them everything we got we will end up with many problems. The problems we will have are not just people who have low reading and math skills but also potentially people who have low self-esteem and have many different mental problems. Public school funding goes beyond simply reading, writing, and math.
Public school funding Increasing school funding is very important in today’s future American students. Education should be one of the top priorities in the United States to make sure every student has the same opportunity to get the same great education. Increasing public school funding be beneficial for outdated textbooks, lack of technology, and increases more resources for students. These resources would be crucial of generating students of America. These students are the workers, leaders, and inspirations of future America.
