There is continually something that prompts to another. Sometimes, it can bring about an enormous outbreak. At the turn of the twentieth century, Europe was at war. This war lasted more than four, long, gruesome years. It was also known as the “Great War”.
World War I and Its Aftermath, Chapter 21. There were a lot of casualties in World War I, and some nations' power shrank, while other nations gained control and had opportunities to grow stronger. The chapter starts with the rise to power of Germany in the late 1800s. Alliances that viewed Germany as a threat began to form as it grew and became more powerful. establishing the triple entente, a collaboration between Russia, France, and Great Britain.
Causes of World War I Prior to World War I, a power struggle between the Ottoman Empire and Russia spiraled into involving Britain and France: the Crimean War. The conditions set for a major shift in power caused by Italian and German unification. This unification brought many new leaders of great power such as Victor Emmanuel II and Otto Von Bismarck. With newfound land, power, and wealth, Bismarck felt invincible and began to seek war and form alliances.

After having studied them all, I have narrowed it down to Militarism and Imperialism, but I believe that the main cause was Alliances. The term Militarism refers to a country’s belief to have a strong military and be prepared to use it whenever necessary in order to defend their country.
World War One was a war unlike any other before or after; as time went on, countries from all around the world were dragged into European affairs, which led to powers exhausting resources to the fullest extent. Total War required all members of society to contribute and take on jobs of much significance that had lasting effects on culture. Throughout World War One both soldiers and civilians endured similar sufferings; however, the roles of each were significantly different from one another and they were affected by the war in various ways.
The progressive reform that had the greatest impact on American society was the 18th Amendment which made the producing, transporting, or selling of alcohol prohibited. It all began when the Anti-Saloon party gained an advantage during World War I. Women who began these reforms gained support because of their influence on the workforce. If the women had not helped by working men’s jobs during the war, it would not have been as easy. Another aspect of the war that contributed to the amendment's publication was the limited resources available. Since alcohol was made of food sources, many saw it as a waste of food supply that could have been used for “our boys at war”.

World War One led to many changes in the U.S and the world itself, but what affects did it have on the domestic issues of America such as segregation and unjust treatment of African Americans, and women 's suffrage. While greatly affecting domestic issues, World War One led to large changes in the demographics because of migration of african americans from southern states because of oppressive laws and racial prejudice to the northern states. It also changed the roles of African Americans and women on society, and led to women 's right to vote, Being a time of such large impact one might never think of what was happening here in America during World War One but in reality it was a time of much change in America. African Americans roles were beginning to change in society because during World War One from 1914 and 1920, roughly 500,000 black southerners packed their bags and headed to the North, fundamentally transforming the social, cultural, and political landscape of cities such as Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.
WW1 is known as the first modern war because it saw the incorporation of mechanical weapons. The Central Powers and Allies both used a variety of weapons such as machine guns, chemical weapons , clothing, biplanes, artillery, tanks, grenades, and rifles. These weapons were state of the art for the early 20th century. These weapons caused casualties to skyrocket as the Allies and the Central Powers were in a stalemate.
World War One economically and socially impacted American, mostly workers, women, and children through the Selective Service Act, the CPI, and women’s suffrage. President Woodrow Wilson was giving the Allies all the United States’ material resources, however the Allies need troops, which is the one thing the United States were unable to provide at the time. As a result, Wilson tried to improve military preparedness and pushed congress to create military conscription, which he argued was the most democratic form of enlistment. According to Eric Fonder, “Under the Selective Service Act of May 1917, 24 million men were required to register with the draft” (726).
Some long term causes of World War one were Imperialism, Militarism, and Nationalism. Countries would try to increase both their power and health by bringing more territory under their control. Which led to the competition of having greater empires than the enemy. Due to all the competition it increased the confrontation pushing towards WWI. However, around 1914, Great Britain (GB) and Germany both had greatly increased navies.
The immediate cause of World War I was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo. However a number of factors contributed to the rivalry between the Great powers that allowed war to break out. Main causes for World War I were Militarism, Imperialism, and Nationalism. These three main causes were just the starters, but the Archduke’s assassination made Austria-Hungary declare war. Eventually, fear and competition in the arms race led to various military alliances, which contributed greatly to the start of World War I. First of all, Militarism was similar to today’s arm’s race.

The Causes of the First World War Carmen There were quite a few causes of the first world war (WW1). The long-term causes were the militarism, alliance system, imperialism and nationalism- MAIN. The short-term cause was the fact that Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for killing Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. I personally think the most significant cause to WW1 is the alliance system and here, I will justify why I think like this. I think the most significant cause of WW1 was the alliance system.
The Surrealist movement first appeared in the early 1920s, and has shaped the course of art history significantly. The goal that many Surrealists share is to “resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super-reality.” In other words, the purpose of Surrealism is to portray the imagination by revealing ideas and images from the unconscious mind. The movement occurred just after World War One, when many people were still coping with the grief and devastation that the war had brought. Many European countries were severely affected by the war as many economies were suffering a Depression. During this time, the Surrealists focused their energy on escaping from the devastation that surrounded
