Essay Structure Assignment The introduction to The Enduring Appeal to Agatha Christie was written in a reasonably concise and effective manner. For one, it followed the basic desired structure of paragraphs, that is, starting from a broad point and closing in on a very specific topic. This can be seen through how the writer begins with by talking about mystery stories as a whole, before narrowing it down to mystery writers, then Agatha Christie and then finally the brilliance of Christie. In addition to this, the introduction shows favorable writing techniques through the final sentence written. The reason for this, is that the last statement of the paragraph should be the author’s thesis statement. The rest of the essay is dedicated to proving these points therefore verifying that this is in fact the thesis statement and the concept of the essay. Next is the body of the essay, the part that proves the aforementioned points and truly presents the author’s point of view. While these paragraphs do match the order mentioned in the writer’s thesis statement, I feel that the order was not the most effective. My reasoning for this is that I do not feel that the first paragraph chosen was the writer’s strongest one, but rather the second paragraph was. This is because the second paragraph uses many good techniques, such as transition words, that allow the paragraph to flow more smoothly. Moreover, in this paragraph the author’s idea’s appear to be more fully developed, being able to give more elaborate and understanding examples than in the first paragraph. Furthermore, the first paragraph doesn’t adequately prove the supposed point of it, that being that Christie
