There have been several Management Information Systems implemented by many different businesses and organizations. The FBI has had an incident where they too tried to implement a Management Information System which ultimately failed. This failure cost the organization roughly 100 million dollars. The system had several different implementation failures that lead to the organization giving up on the idea of the project. The Virtual Case File was meant to be an update to the current system the FBI was using at the time. The current system was a simple system called a User Application Component and was going to be outsourced and ultimately replaced by the new VCF system. As technology increases throughout the world there needs to be upgrades done to systems to keep up with the growing technological world. This is the main reason why the FBI wanted to implement this new VCF system. In this new technological world most items, files, and information is storing online, in databases, and now in the Cloud. The FBI wanted some kind of new case management system to keep up with all of the files using electronics so that they did not have to waste all of the paper and resources keeping track of all the paperwork (Mueller III, 2005). The FBI had a simple system before and a lot of case files were still done and kept as paper copies. The FBI had a simple system before so they did not have the personnel that could handle such complex programs. The FBI also wanted to shorten the completion date for this project. To shorten the completion date the FBI had their technical professionals, who were not as skilled, work on the several stages of the project at one time. All of this led to disaster for the project. Not so skilled individuals, major management changes, and a shorten schedule made the project a failure. If the FBI maybe hired more professionals and extended the time instead of shortening it then it may have been a successful project. The management issue could not necessarily be helped but the other main factors could have changed the
