Both lord of the flies and The Fat Boy show how society and mob mentality affects an individual. In both texts allegory has been used by both authors to convey their point. The Fat Boy on one level it is about a number of incidents occurring in a short time span, in which a villain victimises a small town in NZ. The second level is that this Fat Boy is a non-existent scapegoat for the townspeople`s own poor behaviour. The moral point is that one needs to assume responsibility for one 's own actions and preserve some sense of conscience. Into the Wild shows how Chris’s contemptuous attitude towards society . It also shows the importance of family/friends/human relations and the dangers of isolating yourself from them and society. Because as a species, humans have evolved over time and human interaction has become a basic need for survival, without them we have the capability of going insane just like Chris had. The film also teaches that relationships, whether good or bad has always had the tendency to teach us life lessons, and without these life lessons we wouldn’t know how to deal with the circumstances life throws at us. Jack from ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding also suffers the consequences of fulfilling his baser desires, neglecting the consequences of this on him and the people around him. As a consequence, the descent into savagery, with the rest of the boys following him, highlighting their downfall. The isolation from society is also a factor that provokes their downfall, Jack is stranded on an uninhabited island with a group of young boys with no adults present and Chris is out in the wild alone. With no ordered society, there are no rules to keep them in check hence they are susceptible to think that they are free to do whatever they please exposing them to their worst frailties, this undoubtedly shows that as humans we are best when we have rules to keep us in check as without them we would descent into savagery like Jack and the boys. the kite runner also shows mob-mentality as Aamir is constantly trying to fit in with the norms of the society around him as a result, in fear of being picked on like Hassan he always picks the cowardly decision that supports society and he is unable to stand up for himself just like the victims from the fat boy who despite knowing everything still play a part in the facade of the fat boy. in three of the chosen texts it is clear that mob mentality influenced individuals decision as they do not want to be left out of society while Chris doesn 't
