The movie and the book of The Giver are pretty different. They are also similar in many ways as well. I wouldn't even be able to imagine a world where all of your emotions are taken away. Everyone has great importance because they are diverse and have emotions and opinions. The Movie and the Book are alike in ways, for instance; all the characters play the same roles. Jonas, Asher, and Fiona are friends in both the book and the movie. Jonas likes Fiona. He has parents and a little sister. The movie and the book ended the same way and had many of the same exact quotes. Some of the main ones were; there was a love interest with both Jonas and Fiona that plays out a lot more in the movie. Asher is so much different. Asher is a drone pilot and kind of drifts away from Jonas. When Jonas tries to run away and escape, Asher is sent to kill him. They could transmit memories from just touching each other in the movie. All the Receivers/Givers had marks, instead of pale eyes like in the book. Also everyone but the little sister is much older in the movie than the book. Also, unlike the book Fiona and The Giver were put in prison and Fiona was sent to be released. In the book nobody at the Utopia gets in trouble, or punished for helping Jonas. The Giver didn't know Jonas was running away right then, and Fiona wasn’t as involved. The Chief Elder is also mostly in holograms and plays a bigger part in the movie than the book. She's a villain in the movie to create conflict. The book doesn't have holograms. In fact the book is a lot less technological than the movie. Citizens receive injections everyday with a device instead of oral medicine. The whole place is covered with drones, and there’s electric bikes and more computers/electronics.
