Elizabeth was one of the nine first African American students who were to attend Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. Elizabeth was abused throughout her high school years for being black; she faced daily verbal and physical assault which led to depression and anxiety in her adult years. Meanwhile, Hazel, who also attended Central High School, was a racist white girl who shouted out racial slurs to the black students around her. Although Elizabeth and Hazel are very different from each other, one might identify with Elizabeth and Hazel about getting bullied, making mistakes, and social pressure.
The Woman Within the next 10 minutes, Jonas and Gabriel had finally reached Elsewhere. As Jonas walked with Gabe grasping against him, as they are both weak and frigid, they reach a small building he recognizes as what is known as a house. Feelings and Emotion Different feelings and emotion are not known in the community within the people. The Giver and Jonas are the only true people that know how to feel the different emotions. Every night at the conclusion of their evening meal one of the rituals is the evening telling of feelings. In the very first Chapter Jonas talks about how it was almost December and Jonas was beginning to be frightened. But then thought that was the wrong word to use.
Whoosh! They were whizzing down the steep hill, accelerating faster and faster, until they could no longer clearly see what was around us. Suddenly, the sled screeches to a halt. It felt like the force of an elephant pushing down on their insides. The ability to see started coming back to Jonas, but only in small sections of his field of view.
The Giver Short Response Some of the ways that it would be safer to have society or government choose things for us is about the being different aspect. There is a lot of conflict going on in the world right now over religion and other people not agreeing with certain religions. For example, there is currently a war going on in the Middle East involving the terrorist group Isis. If society or government chose the same religion for everybody then there would be no conflict revolving religion and it would prevent the thousands of deaths that have happened over it. Another way it would be safer from not being different is involving the kids in schools.
In modern society there are many good things overlooked. There are different freedoms and other choices we can make; however, in The Giver that is a different story. In The Giver there are many differences from from our society but, there still is a few similarities from modern society and The Giver society. There are many differences from modern society and from The Giver society some are the rules, the family units, and the leadership in both societies. One huge difference is the rules between both societies.
There are differences between modern life, and "The Giver.'' In a modern family you are allowed to have as many kids as you want, but if the family units in "The Giver," wants to have children then they have to choose either one or two children of each gender, only if they apply for a spouse. Modern family units don't have to apply for a spouse, because they are allowed to mate with each other, unlike the family units. When the family units apply for a spouse the have to go to the head of the community and ask them.

A person would be released if he/ she was the smaller of twins, if a person was reaching the end of their life, or if one asked to. Someone could also be released if they made three big mistakes and interrupted the uniform society. This has a negative effect because there is not much room to make mistakes and learn from them. If someone did not fit in, they were released.
If you break the rules you will be caught and their is no room for forgiveness. Also, if you are diagnosed with a disease, or just simply sick, you must likely will be released into the “elsewhere” world. The Giver is a novel which belongs to the fiction genre. The novel is written by author Lois Lowry, and
“We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others” (Lowry). In other words, this means that to get what you want, you have to get rid of other things you have. Although there are many similarities between The Giver and our society, there are a lot more differences like families, rules, and personal freedoms.
