Modern Society V.S. The Givers Society Imagine living in a world where people have to do and say certain things. In The Giver they have to follow a lot of things, unlike our society where we have lots of freedom. The Giver has many different rules, technology, and precision of language unlike our society. Even though modern day society and The Givers society is somewhat similar, they do have many differences. For hundreds of years the rules in the modern society has changed significantly. In society today, people have more freedom than the people in The Giver ever had. In the novel The Giver it says ¨Like the Matching of Spouses and the Naming and Placement of newchildren, and the Assignments were scrupulously thought though by the Committee of Elders¨ (Lowry 48). That citation shows how they had things chosen for them and they did not have much freedom. In both societies they get to pick what kind of volunteer hours and what we do in their free time. From The Giver if they make three mistakes they get released (executed) (Lowry 9). In The Giver it states ¨The books in his own dwelling were the only books that Jonas had ever seen. He had never known that other books existed¨ (lowry 74). In modern society we have seen so many books and have so much technology unlike The Givers society. The article from CommonLit it says “The 21st century tendency to over-document through the use of technology becomes a compulsion” (Ostergaard 17). From that cition it shows how technology is a huge burden. Only few people from The Giver have seen books while in our society we´ve seen a lot of them. Jonas’ society is kind of like today's society. Even though our society and their society has great differences about technology we do have many
