A coming-of-age story revolves around the growth of the main character throughout the book. Neil Gaiman is the author of "The Graveyard Book." The Graveyard Book is about a boy who is raised in a graveyard by supernaturals. The boy's name is Nobody Owens. Nobody Owens was the only survivor of his family's murders. The Graveyard Book is a coming-of-age story because Bod physically matures, Bod matures mentally, and Bod learns more about his family's murder as he grows older.
Bod lived in the cemetery from infancy until he was a teenager. Bod physically grows older and taller throughout the years of being in the graveyard. In the book, Silas brings Bod a bunch of new clothes, which probably meant Bod was too big for his old clothes. Most of …show more content…

This means that as Bod grows older, he is mentally maturing. Bod wanted to explore the outside world. Bod always asked Silas and Mrs. Owens a lot of questions. Bod's curiosity gets him into trouble most of the time. Since Bod lived in the graveyard, he got his education from the graveyard. One day Bod decided to ask Silas if he could go to an actual school. Silas said yes, but Bod didn’t realize what trouble he was in. During his time going to school, he found out information that led him to be more curious and ask more questions. Silas never really gave Bod an answer as to why he couldn’t leave. Silas just told Bod it wasn’t safe. Even as Bod got older, Silas still didn’t give him any details on why it wasn’t safe. which led to Bod having to figure it out for himself. When Bod got into an altercation with his peers at school, The Man Jack found him. When Bod was in his situation, he found out some information about The Man Jack.
