Nick and Gatsby become close friends and learns that he loves his Daisy. Throughout the story Nick learns more and more secrets about these characters until the truth came out. Once the truth came out about Daisy and Gatsby’s love, in the heat of the moment, Daisy runs over Tom’s mistress Myrtle, and not long after Gatsby dies too. In both stories the main characters search for their true love by sacrificing a part of themselves and conquering trouble.

At the beginning the plot was more of who was Gatsby and Tom Buchanan having an affair on Daisy. Nick then got invited to Gatsby's for one his amazing parties. Gatsby tells Jordan Baker to ask a favor of him that gets him involved in the plot. This favor is “ If you'll invite Daisy to your house some afternoon and then let him come over”(Fitzgerald 76). This quote from the book shows how Nick Carraway got put into the plot of The Great Gatsby by inviting Daisy to his house
And as I think everyone in the story has a level of toxicity, Jordan is a pathological liar, Daisy is an emotional gold digger, and Gatsby is obsessive. The only person in this whole tale who isn’t toxic is Nick himself. He leaves town and says “ I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart.” (1) which tells the reader just how traumatizing this situation was. Nick was the middleman.
Nick meets the great Gatsby and later learns that Gatsby once loved Daisy years prior but did not have enough money for them to get married. Now, five years later Gatsby has become rich, bought a mansion and thrown legendary parties in hopes that he could win back Daisy. Nick invites Daisy over for tea and after Daisy meets Gatsby the love from five years ago is revived and they begin to see each other. All seems good until one day when Tom figures out that Gatsby in madly in love with Daisy. Even though Tom is having his own affair he is infuriated by this and he reveals that Gatsby made his money in organized crime.
Nick was clearly in love with Gatsby. He had had true feelings for Jordan for a while, but once he met Gatsby, those feelings slowly disappeared. He was secretly holding out hope to be with
Gatsby’s troubled past contradicts with his present personality. After Gatsby dies, Nick is torn between believing that Gatsby is a great friend and that Gatsby is a corrupt bootlegger. In order to believe that Gatsby is a good friend, Nick must forget about Gatsby’s criminal past. By erasing the obscene word on Gatsby’s steps, Nick is choosing to erase Gatsby’s corrupt past and remember Gatsby as a good friend. Barbara also mentions how frequently Fitzgerald mentions eyesight and Gatsby’s vanishings.
Nick is headed with Tom to the city, in which Tom brought Nick along to meet his mistress Myrtle, who joins the two on their adventure. The three characters arrive to the city and head to Tom and Myrtle's apartment, that they frequently vacation at, to met up Myrtle's sister Catherine and Mr. McKee. The group of men and women party in the apartment until all of them are at a drunken state of mind, prone to miscommunication and memory-loss of recent conversations and activities while inside the apartment. While in this drunken state of mind, Tom firmly tells Myrtle to stop saying Daisy's name, in which she did not follow suit, and Tom open hand hits Myrtle in the face, breaking her
