In The Great Gatsby, many characters experience a huge impact caused by love. The most notable character impacted by love was Jay Gatsby. His experience with love causes him to change his persona and even sacrifice himself in the name of love. Jay Gatsby in his past dated a woman named Daisy, He couldn t obtain the woman he cherished due to the poor background he came from. Throughout the many flashbacks in the story, we learn that Jay Gatsby had changed his identity just to find the love of his life once again. He went to the extent of bootlegging to gain his wealth, which was needed in his plan to gain his lover once again. This business dealing causes Gatsby to run into illegal procedures in his business and come across evil individuals to gain his fortune. With Gatsby s newfound fortune, Gatsby hosted many extravagant parties in hopes of finding the woman of his life again. Gatsby posed as a rich man, with his library vastly filled with unread books. The love Gatsby had for Daisy was so immense that it caused him to have a fraudulent identity just for the sake of finding his loved one. …show more content…

Before the event, Gatsby had already had his dreams crushed in gaining Daisy. Her husband Tom Buchanan had already confronted Gatsby and asserted that Daisy does not love him. With Tom knowing he won he lets them drive back together in Gatsby s yellow car, which previously Tom said was his. This followed the death of Myrtle, who was killed by Daisy. However, Gatsby offered to say that he had run over and killed Myrtle to protect Daisy, even after she couldn t say that she loved Gatsby. Following the event, Myrtle s husband fatally shot Gatsby as he believed that he was the one who had run over his wife. Gatsby was ultimately killed by his blindness that was caused by love.
