Following the footsteps of a demigod With the start of the summer of 2007, I read the warning; the clear warning to stop reading and to close the book if I were to recognize myself in its pages. I didn’t listen. I flipped to the next page wondering what could be worse than the reality of a Jordanian American girl living between Jerusalem and New York. However, that was the moment when I was sucked into the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I saw myself reflected in its words, perhaps not as a daughter of a Greek god, but as a person who faced a lot of challenges in her life. You might be wondering, how can I see myself in a fictional demigod character, that saved the whole world no less? I never said I saw myself in his achievements, I saw my reflection in his daily more humble life. The shadow in the eyes of a kid that saw death, faced betrayal throughout his life and yet improved himself and overcame all the diverse challenges and kept all of his special characteristics the whole way. My growth story is what may be told in a metaphorical way through a special set of items that may go unnoticed in Percy’s books. …show more content…
