In today's society the Lizzie Borden case would have gone viral in minutes, but in 1892 it was merely the talk of the town. Lizzie Borden was a 32 year old woman living at home with her parents, she was accused of murdering both of them on the same day with an ax. Lizzie was proven innocent involving the murders of her father and stepmother, Andrew and Abby Borden. Despite the public's popular opinion that she was guilty of committing the murders of her parents, the innocent verdict was correctly acquitted due to the lack of evidence at the scene of the crime, the positive relationships between the Borden family members, and the fact that she was not the only one present when the murders took place. While Bridget gave her testimony, she explained how she had been upstairs in her bedroom resting when Lizzie came rushing in for help after she had found Andrew dead (Bristol, 2022, para. 14). Bridget Sullivan was the Borden family’s 25 year old housekeeper. She lived permanently in the Borden household and cared for their home. The day of the murders she was washing windows and dishes and helping out around the house. Moreover, during his testimony, John Morse stated that he had been staying at the Borden household in the guest bedroom upstairs. When he left that morning he only saw Mr. Borden on his way out. Morse also stated that the bedroom he stayed in was the bedroom Abby Borden was murdered in later that day (Bristol, 2022, para. 19). Mr. Morse had been in the area for work and when Lizzie was questioned about her uncle she said that since he had been in the area, he was granted entry into the Borden household at all times. In John Morse’s testimony he had been asked about his relationship with Andrew Borden. He responded and stated that the two have never gotten along (Moriarty, 2021, para. 41). John Morse never got along with Andrew nor Abby. He was only staying with the Borden’s because he was in town for work and still wanted to keep up with Lizzie’s life.
