In The Watchmen novel, we are introduced to a post human god who has powerful supernatural powers, telekinesis and is able to become aware of the past, present and future. As his journey continues seen as a god-like hero, Dr. Manhattan argues about having no desire returning back to earth because he has unlinked to the one person he desires, believes earth is distraught, and lastly, he has detached from humanity so his emotional connection to feel empathy has turned into apathy. However, he has no realization what his action can do to the human earth. Since the incident happened with Dr. Manhattan all his humanity abilities seemed to have detached from his soul, making him seem careless and lack interest to his surroundings. Manhattan claims he has no interest going back to earth due to his unlinking with Laurie. He states “[.] You were my only link, my only concern with the world. “When you left me, I left earth. Does that not say something? “Now you’ve replaced me, and that link is shattered. Don’t you see what that means?”“ Don’t you see the futility of asking me to save a world that I no longer have any stake in? (Chapter 9, p 8)” The cause of his rebellion of not wanting to go back to earth seems rely more on his situation with Laurie. He seems hurt for the fact that she moved on to Dan. She is the one he blames for leaving earth. Once they unlinked he no longer wanted a stake in it. He no longer wanted to be apart of a place where those around him made him feel like he wasn’t appreciated. The only appreciating he had was for his red planet that was much better than earth itself. Thirdly, his detachment from earth was caused from feeling like he wasn’t appreciated enough for his work with earth. He helped fight its enemies, banned another war from taking place (if he returned to earth) and protected the earth from failing again. Therefore, returning will only make remind him of his pain and detachment with humanity and the person he once loved. Dr. Manhattan assumes that Laurie and those who are reading the chapter would agree with his evidence and statements as to why he shouldn’t return to earth. He argues that earth is only a place that creates conflict, pain and suffering to humans
