During World War 2, the United States created an experimental Air Corp program. This program´s purpose was to test women as air force pilots. In 1942, Henry H. Arnold made the W.A.S.P (Woman Army Service Pilots) corp established. These empowering women helped the U.S Air force during the war by accompanying them on almost every flight and other duties. Without the U.S Air force and the Woman Army Service Pilots, we wouldn't have been able to fight how we did. In my essay, I will explain why W.A.S.P started, how their training and work was like, and their recognition. (Encyclopedia Britannica). The beginning of the W.A.S.P program, signed by Air force general Henry H. Arnold, started in 1942. This group was an experimental air corp to test if women could relieve men for overseas duties as pilots. These women would be the first of their kind to fly U.S military aircraft. Their training was identical to the males, including military discipline, physical training, Air Force values, and other subjects relating to life as a pilot. The only part of the training the women were excluded from was the combat training. The women also played important roles in the Air force’s work. They relieved men for oversea duties, ferried planes from factories to military bases, tested overhauled planes to see if they functioned, and towed targets to help air and ground gunners with their training. They logged more than 60 million miles and every plane they Air Force possessed, the W.A.S.P’s flew. They also helped with every mission the men did, apart from combat missions.
