Expository Essay: The Hobbit

How does not having or developing emotional maturity impact one’s life? J.R.R. Tolkien explores how the lack of emotional intelligence or gain in emotional intelligence changes lives in his novel, The Hobbit. Bilbo Baggins, Tolkien’s protagonist, begins the story with a lack of emotional intelligence, but as the story progresses, the hobbit psychologically matures. Mr. Baggin’s initial lack of emotional intelligence causes him to behave in ways that earn him disrespect, but when he gains emotional intelligence, he is transformed into a leader, a hero, and someone who is held in high regard by many.

Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins begins to boom his emotional intelligence in the course of his trek thru the Misty Mountains. In “Riddles Inside the Dark,” the hobbit encounters Gollum and starts to evolve to show trends of emotional intelligence that incorporate empathy. that is expressed even as Mr. Baggins says, “he is miserable, on my own, lost”(46-47). displaying that he understood that if he did kill Gollum, then it wouldn’t be proper. Then the narrator tells us even extra of Bilbo’s thoughts, announcing, “a shocking knowledge, a pity blended with horror, welled up in Bilbo’s coronary heart: a glimpse of unmarked days…”(forty-six-47). because of the reality, it is Bilbo Baggins who formulates and executes a plan to rescue his partners, the hobbit emerges because the authentic leader of the corporation. When Bilbo introduces the plan to the dwarves, they don’t like it but after a bit of convincing, they ultimately agree, “That becomes too much for them and that they calmed down. at the stop, of the direction, they had to do just what Bilbo cautioned”(eighty-two). Mr. Baggins was able to calm the dwarves down and made them realize they'd no better alternative than to go along with
