The American Identity is how one can describe America based on it’s past, relations, customs, and present. Most would say that the American Identity is the culture of the people, working hard, and fighting for the right cause. There is one book that has now been turned into a major motion picture that can portray these identities, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. The plot and characters in both are the same along with the struggles. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, lives in District 12 along with her sister and mother. There are a total of 12 Districts, and each District grows or serves a part to a greater whole. All of these Districts are controlled by the Capital. Two tributes from each District are selected by drawing names from a bowl, one male and one female, and they must fight to the death in an arena. The last person standing is deemed the winner. This year, Primrose Everdeen, Katniss’s sister, was selected as one of the tributes, but Katniss volunteered to take her place. The male tribute chosen was Peeta Mellark and he and Katniss know each other. In order for them to have a chance at surviving, they must put on a show for the Capital and change who they are. Katniss and Peeta must pretend to be in love for the entirety of the games so people in the Capital will feel sympathy for them. In the arena, they must face many challenges and struggle to survive. Through all their struggles, they end up victorious, but little do they know that they have also started a revolution against the Capital. Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games, both book and movie, shows the American Identity by showing that everything you get is earned and has to be worked for, unity is part of our culture, and we fight for a better life. In this book, there are a total of 12 Districts that are controlled by one Capital. Each of these Districts has a certain job to perform in order to provide for all. Some mine, some grow food, some build, while some work power plants. On the other hand, some Districts are rich and don’t have to do anything because they are favored by the Capital. Every person in each District has a job to do that requires hard work and can be dangerous, so life can be really hard for these people. Living conditions are horrible for most Districts and most people don’t have much money, so what they do have is worked hard
