The Hunger Games (2012), an action packed adventure movie directed by Gary Ross which is about a Utopia and Dystopia depending on which district you live in. Panem is the country that was known as North America now consist of 12 districts. Two people, One female and one male from ages 12-18 will represent their district in the annual Hunger Games, in which there may only be one victor. The duration of this film focusses on the 74th Hunger Games which include the main characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. These two must fight for their lives against each other and the 22 other ‘Tributes’. This could be seen when Katniss starts a rebellion against the Capitol with out her really knowing because her famous three-finger salute. This three-finger salute which is originally a gesture that you would do at someones funeral in Katniss’s district. Its original meaning was meant to say thanks, show admiration and good-bye to someone you love. After certain districts such as 11 and 12 takes this in the wrong way they start a ‘resistance’ and revolution she never intended to happen.

 Various ways that there are symbolic anthropology can be seen in the Hunger Games. A famous anthropologist Victor Turner said "symbols that can be consciously wielded in ritual to achieve particular ends". Immediately you can see symbolism when Katniss initially volunteered as tribute as she intends to spare her sister from partaking in the Hunger Games.
