Internationalism is vital to black radical politics because it brings the domestic issues faced by African Americans in the United States into a larger global context. The Communist Party came to understand that exploited African Americans constituted what could be considered a nation within a nation. African Americans experienced much the same oppression in the United States as nations experienced under capitalism and its extensions of imperialism and colonialism. The Black Panther Party utilized internationalism in staunchly bringing the issues faced by black people in the United States to international recognition.
The speeches, 'I Have a Dream,' 'Letter From Birmingham Jail,' and 'Remarks on the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr,' all aim to persuade listeners to do something. In 'I Have a Dream,' King wants people to persevere in the pursuit of civil rights. In 'Letter From Birmingham Jail,' King wants people to act instead of being part of those who don’t. And in 'Remarks on the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr,' Kennedy wants people to treat each other well and pray for Martin Luther King Jr. In 'I Have a Dream,’ King states, "There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?
During the 1960s and 70s, America became a nation of issues and controversy. In fact, various groups of people attempted to identify the root problems within American society and the role of citizens in resolving them. During this time, the most prominent groups, still in existence today, were the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the Black Panther Party, and the United Farm Workers. In the following documents, there were numerous issues within American society that were discussed, however, one of the most common problems were centered around freedom. In addition, another reason for change comprised of self-reliance.
Agency is the ability of individuals to act independently and to make their own decisions. The social structure is a manner dictated for a person in which they must abide by to act. The Black Panther Party is an example of how individuals acted independently to arm themselves against the police. Structure would have been for them to report bad behavior or mistreatment to their local police depart but they decided that a corrupt system would not fix itself therefore they used their agency to take their problems into their own hands.
Martin Luther King Jr., one of the greatest speakers for black civil rights movement, had written many great works in his time. Two of his pieces stand out as his greatest works. Letter from Birmingham Jail; a pieces written from a jail cell in birmingham where he was arrested for peacefully protesting, the letter was attended to the white clergymen who didn 't agree with his views and I Have a Dream Speech; was a speech king gave in front of the washington memorial. Both works convey similarities and differences in their tone, structure, appeal and figurative language. There are many similarities between “I Have a Dream” and the letter from birmingham jail.
The Letter from Birmingham Jail and the I have a Dream Speech, both written by Martin Luther King Jr., explain the same message to people in two different ways. The Letter from Birmingham Jail was to write a letter to defend the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism. He wrote this because he wants African Americans to come together and peacefully protest the unjust laws that are in place. On the other hand, his speech was to a large group of citizens, black and white, fighting for freedom, equality, justice and love. He used many rhetorical devices in his speech and letter that compared the two, and to show the differences in a clear way.
In addition to education for black people and women, a good education is important to fulfilling the American Dream of theirs; however, in that period of time black people and women were not consider to have a education and even they do, they will only be lower education as won’t be going for college. Education is important for black people because they want to learn and to change. According to the article of “Platform and program of the black panther party, 1966”, it state, “We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowledge of self. If a man does not have knowledge of himself and his position in society and the world, then he has little chance to relate to anything else”(p.3). In comparison, women also think that
The common similarity you find between the two writings by Martin Luther King Jr. is the fact that each one says facts about King Jr. wanting to end racism in the south and to stop it from erupting in the north. On the other hand, a lot of differences you see, is that King Jr. told his “I Have A Dream” speech to the public, and his “Letter From Birmingham Jail” speech was written in the creases and folds and nooks and crannies of old newspapers, (because he didn 't have proper writing paper) and sent to the eight prominent clergymen outside his jail cell. Another common similarity is that both of his writings impacted the U.S. both in the north and in the south. The “Letter From Birmingham Jail” letter impacted the city of Birmingham, and his “I Have A Dream” speech, it impacted the entire country of USA. His speech ended segregation, but he was then shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, in the Lorraine Motel.
In watching the documentary of the Black Panther Party (movement) and how they were form to better the communities around them. The Government officials, FBI in particular infuriated to destroy them in light to keep power among the weaker individuals of society. The individuals happen to be of color (Blacks, Latinos, and Asians). I did however admire how the documentary portrayed black culture at that time. Despite the things that were occurring between law enforcement and the Black Panther party, blackness was promoted and people were proud to be black.

Newton and Seale attended community college at Merritt and they acquired their exposure to politics by being active in various political organizations. The pair soon realized that the organizations on campus were not enough.
Malcolm X once said “Early in life [he] had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.” The Black Panther Party lived by this quote. The party rose from the foundations of Malcolm X. The party was much different from other civil rights movements. They went by direct confrontation.
I choose to do my archival project on the women that were involved in the Black Panther Party organization. This party was founded in 1966, by two black men named Bobby Seale and Newton. This organization was created in self -defense for black communities. This organization not only offered self defense but many other helpful programs that I will mention briefly. Researching about the Black Panther women sparked my interest because my mother is a strong influential woman, similarly to the women who were apart of this organization.
An African American living in the 1960’s with hopes of being able to vote, work, or to go to school were all just dreams, things that they thought didn’t exist for colored people. In the early 1960’s Martin Luther King Jr. being a black himself, was an advocate for black rights. He was the author of many inspiring newspaper articles, books and speeches. His most well known out of the many are the “I Have a Dream” speech and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, which were both written in times of despair. MLK used many techniques to persuade his audience, he mostly used pathos and logos.
Xerxes the great, the fourth king of Persia, emerged as one of the most intriguing historical figures of his time. After his father, Darius the Great was assassinated, Xerxes was left to finish what his father failed to accomplish and made numerous attempts to avenge his title. These attempts include the multiple expeditions he mounted to Greece which resulted in a series of defeats. Xerxes was left susceptible to the bias and hostile accounts written by Greek writers, which present him as a violent and unstable ruler. Accounts by Herodotus as well as other primary sources remain the only foundations that portray Xerxes in a positive light, balancing out his good and bad points.
The Black Power Movement and the formation of the Black Panther Party was in the late 1960s. These movement directly followed after the passing of Civil Rights Voting Act of 1965. Thus, marking the end of the classic civil rights movement (Montgomery Bus Boycott to Voting Rights Act). The most publicized leader during the Classical Phase was Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his approach to promote nonviolence as a form of civil disobedience proved to be beneficial in many regions of America. Especially the cities that received a lot of media coverage.
