While space exploration has been a goal of many nations, the United States has been the most vigorous in achievements. Some believe that it is dangerous and that focus should be put on mankind’s current home, while others insist it is vital to the survival of the human race. Besides, the protection of humanity - the discoveries made from space exploration should outweigh any consequences of it in importance. Yes, space adventures do cost an exorbitant amount of money that could potentially lead to solving world wide problems such as poverty and hunger, but it would only solve these problems temporarily. This research could build knowledge about diseases in order to not bring them to a new planet. As reported by the National Institutes of Health, “Infectious diseases...that once killed and disabled millions of people are now prevented by vaccines”. This is not acceptable. These diseases should not only be prevented, they should be eliminated. With full elimination, we can be sure that diseases will not be brought to a new clean planet. Without this, a single strand of bacteria could ruin the chances of a better life planet for humans. Another issue relating to diseases is “back contamination” (Source F). This takes place when samples are brought back from space travel and could possibly infect someone or something on earth. Safety procedures regarding this should be taken more seriously before astronauts bring back specimens that could be dangerous. Without diligent procedures, as previously stated, this could end the human race on our current planet.
