Arguments Against NASA Funding

1282 Words6 Pages

NASA Funding This year, the federal government is spending 19.5 billion dollars on The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Roff). NASA was established in 1958 and has led most of the US space exploration efforts including the Apollo Moon Lading missions, the International Space Station, and many more (Hourihan and Parks 19). Some people and other opposing government- supported organizations would say that NASA is a waste of money. However, NASA is a very productive administration. NASA is constantly working on inventions to make the world better, while sending spaceships to Mars (Kruesil 32). NASA deserves the funding that the government is giving them. The funding from the government is going towards projects that will take place …show more content…

NASA keeps track of huge asteroids that could potentially hit the Earth (McBrien). Although it is rare that a life-threatening asteroid will hit Earth, there are multiple smaller asteroids speeding closer to our atmosphere that could cause damage (McBrien). Although this sounds pretty scary, we do not need to worry about asteroids because NASA is tracking them. NASA is also coming up with strategies to get rid of an asteroid that threatens Earth, by using the Gravity Tractor. “The Gravity Tractor works by flying a spacecraft near the asteroid and slowly moving it away, drawing the asteroids toward it” (McBrien). This process only works if NASA catches the asteroid soon enough, the government cannot risk cutting the asteroid tracking part of NASA. NASA has made great strides in the medical field. “A charged coupled device which ultimately led to more precise tests on women who have breast cancer and arterial vision” (Blake 21). The Silicon chips that hospitals use to look at tiny spots in breast tissue, were made by NASA for their Hubble Space Telescope (21). The Jet Propulsion Lab allows medical professionals to look into a patient’s circulatory system and look for blocked or damaged arteries (21). NASA has already made our life’s better; if we continue to let them work and discover they will continue to create new technology to better our …show more content…

Devices we use everyday require satellites that NASA created to orbit Earth. These devices include cell phones, GPA systems, satellite television, and weather satellites (McBrien). In today’s society, we are not able to live without our cell phones and our television. We should be thanking NASA everyday for satellites. NASA has invented so many other useful things like cameras on phones and scratch resistant lenses on glasses (Weber 89). While trying to make a good digital image, NASA ended out helping make CAT scanners and radiography (89). While trying to make “a lightweight device to collect samples on the moon” (90). NASA invented the dust blower. Nike Air trainers would not exist without NASA, along with ear thermometers, home insulation, wireless headphones, the computer mouse, and portable computers (90). Although NASA may have its management flaws, NASA ends up making life better for everyone in so many ways. We need to encourage space exploration because space might hold the solution to problems on Earth. Even if astronomers do not find what they are looking for, they always end up inventing something that helps people out here on
