Should NASA get more funding from the government? NASA is the National Aeronautic and Space Administration, NASA is arguably one of the most important government agencies that exist. There is many reason as to why this is and it’s contributions to our everyday life are more than most realize. From prosthetic limbs and landing a man on the moon NASA has been responsible for a wide spectrum of achievements in its existence. NASA has also been a focal point of our nation for as long as most can remember after the space race initiated by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 NASA has been a highly respected organization. NASA put the United States at the top of the space exploration and now it is getting less and less funding for its cutting edge research recently a new budgets proposal has since changed NASA’s top protorites. Congress has said it would like the agency to put more effort into deep-space exploration rather than climate change research. The most noticeable difference in spending is the contrast of spending with the department of defence which is the most funded area of the government. The department of defense receives 574 billions dollars a year while NASA receives on average of 19 billion dollars. NASA is doing extraordinary work and it’s funding should be increased. It is said that “ for every dollar spent on NASA 10 dollars is added to the economy.” If NASA was getting 16.1 billion dollars a year as it was in 2005 that means that NASA added 180 billion dollars to the economy.
