On December 10th, 2015, Phoebe Maltz Bovy published her article, “It’s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them.” , on the progressive New Republic website. This article was published eight days after the San Bernardino attack of December 2nd, 2015. This article explores why the United States of America should ban every gun in the country.
The general argument made by Paul Waldman in his work, “The Case For Banning Guns,” is that gun control should be put into effect and certain firearms should be banned. More specifically, Waldman argues that abandoning these guns could decrease mass shootings and make America a much safer environment. He writes, “Yes, I’d like to ban guns. Almost all of them, at least the ones in private hands.” In this passage, Paul is suggesting that the United States would be much better off abandoning these weapons that leave communities with so much blood and gore.
Around 80 million americans own about 223 million guns. Therefore Assault Rifles should not be banned from american citizens. Banning assault rifles would interfere with the second amendment of the United States of America. Within the second amendment, it states citizens have the “Right to bear arms.” “It is a constitutional right to bear arms.”

Due to the unfortunate events that have happened in the past, many people are strongly for the regulations of firearms in the United States. Even though there are occasions where firearms are used by criminals for nothing less than evil, there are still many situations where firearms have been used to stop that same kind of evil. From stopping a criminal from robbing a convenient store to from stopping a sniper from killing more people than he already has, firearms have been used for good and not for evil in more situations than not. Many people in our nation believe that we should follow the example of some European nations and outright ban the sell and ownership of firearms.

Sure the bandaid slows it down, but over time the blood will bleed through the bandage. In today’s society, one of the most alienating issues in American politics is gun control. More specifically, the issue is whether or not guns should be banned in the United States. Guns should be banned in America, with 30,000 deaths yearly in America, we need to do something about it. Many counties have made strict gun control laws or just have banned guns and that seems to be helping them. We have the most gun deaths out of all wealthy countries, which is unacceptable and we need to change it as fast as possible to prevent further deaths. Many people say that guns shouldn't be banned because of how the Second Amendment says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment was written in 1791, around 225 years ago!
The gun violence in this country is starting to get out of hand, and if we do not do something about this issue the problem will only continue to grow. There are so many issues that are involved with this major issue that is surrounding this country. There are children all over the United States that have no clue what a gun is, so they would have no idea what to do if they ever saw a gun just laying around. There are many programs and companies out there that are out there trying to combat this major problem about gun violence and the crime rate. The National Rifle Association for example has many programs and safety courses to help alert the children or even the uneducated people about the safety of guns, and what they should do if they were to see a gun.
