Just this year I changed from an accelerated history class to a more challenging AP history class,
I have learned so much from my high school american history course so far and I’m genuinely shocked by how interesting the information we are learning is. When I generally think about history it bores me but when I started learning about history this year everything changed. I think it’s very important to know history because without those historic events we quite possibly wouldn’t be where we are today. So that’s what I will be trying to do.
In The Grapes of Wrath and Civil Disobedience, authors John Steinbeck and Henry David Thoreau discuss their beliefs about the government. Having being written more than one hundred years apart, these authors overlap and differ on some of their ideas about the government. Both Steinbeck and Thoreau believe that there should be a universal solution to governmental issues. However, they differ on what exactly should be universal and whether there should be a governmental force at all. It can be seen in both The Grapes of Wrath and Civil Disobedience that authors John Steinbeck and Henry David Thoreau believe that universal ideas are the solution to a well-run and just government.
While reviewing my first memo the three main issues that I saw was the unnecessary use of verbiage, ineffective use of transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and remembering to completely flesh out each test in the rule proof. The most helpful thing I can do in to help myself is just to reread my paper multiple times and even maybe have my peers to look at my paper with fresh eyes. Being concise and to the point is clearly my biggest problem. I have started to edit my paper down multiple times on different days to cut down my extremely long and over complicated sentences. I also think that if I go sentence by sentence then it will be easier for me to cut down on the words that are not needed for the sentence to make sense.
This year has been long and stressful. Junior year being known as one of the hardest years lived up to what it’s known for. Between all the honor classes, friend drama, and family life I learned that paying attention to details is extremely important. I learned this through the reading quizzes. When reading a book I never paid much attention to the small details.
One Saturday in 1965 I happened to be walking past the National Archives buil~ling in Washington. Across the interim years I had thought of Grandma's old stories-otherwise I can't think what diverted me up the Archives' steps. And when a main reading room desk attendant asked if he could help me. I wouldn't have dreamed of admitting to him some curiosity hanging on from boyhood about my slave forebears. I kind of bumbled that I was interested in census records of Alamance County, North Carolina, just after the Civil War.
Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. As a student of organization and willingness to participate in classroom discussions and interactions, I believe those attributes of me as a student set me up for success in this class. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. As an AP English student I am mainly interested in continuing to practice and develop reading and writing skills
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
In high school, I took AP Literature and I feel as though it prepared me very well. My teacher helped me to develop my writing into something I could be proud of. In high school, we were required to use notable sources that were academically worthy. For example, everyone used Galileo to find credible sources for their specific topic. In my English classes, we read and analyzed notorious novels and short stories.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
This meant that I had to know what I had to study for. In addition, I made sure that I also had an enough time to study everything. Looking back, I now know how important this was. I knew how easy it could have been to get

There was no doubt in my mind that I tried my hardest in the classes; I just did not have as much faith in myself when it came to the test day. In AP U.S. History, I did my homework religiously every weekend on Sunday afternoons by delving into each chapter as much as possible and enjoying what I was reading. For AP Language and Composition by creating a word wall in my room in order to improve my vocabulary. All the weekends spent doing homework and more for these classes paid off in a way I never would have imagined. I finally was able to believe my hard work towards achieving a goal could actually be rewarded.
I have understood the material more as I studied out of the text book. This has also helped me take effective notes. With this most recent score on my exam I had a push to keep going and
Major assignments -Work Projects- taught me how to write essays and include employed academic documentation (MLA). In this course, I’ve completed various reading assignments, did independent analytical thinking about what I’ve read, participate in discussions on what I’ve read, write about what I’ve read, and carry out research, this emphasis on reading was to show the importance of critical reading, and how it is going to benefit my studies. Understanding this academic essay structure, the use of rhetorical strategies in essay writing, writing a summary, formulating a thesis, and writing essays using rhetorical strategies. All these skills were the fruit of researching and
