Adonay has made his best effort to focus at his work in the classroom. His reading has slow progress throughout the year. Although, he reads most-text specific vocabulary, he still needs to decode unfamiliar words using appropriate strategies like blending and segmentation. It is also beneficial to develop his self-correction strategy by attending to meaning while he reads a text. Adonay finds challenging to interpret a text he reads as he struggles to access independently some additional meanings from a text.
1. What was your personal reaction to the text? Did you find the reading persuasive? Why or why not?
Florence Kelley was a women’s rights activist who gave a speech before the convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association in the summer of 1905 on the topic of child labor. This speech on child labor offers insight to the harsher lives that some children have to carry in comparison to some adults due to no child labor laws. Kelley’s writing was meant to persuade the audience to improve child labor laws and safety by appealing to pathos. Throughout the beginning of the essay, there’s repetition of the phrase: “[W]hile we sleep.”
Children are having their childhoods took away from them everyday due to many reasons, but a major reason is child laboring. Florence Kelley, United States social worker discusses the negative effects of child laboring using rhetorical devices such as imagery, credibility, and emotions to explain to the National American Suffrage Association the affects that child laboring has on a child’s childhood. In this speech Florence Kelley displays many different emotions such as guilt, anger, pity and sadness. “Tonight while we sleep, several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills, all the night though, in the deafening noise……” Kelley reveals an emotion of sadness.

Although she gave hundreds of speeches during her lifetime, one in particular stands out. During her speech, she urged listeners to take part in stopping unrestrained work hours for children.

One thing that I still need practice on is explaining how the techniques the author uses workes for what they are trying to accomplish. The only way I can get better at this is by re-reading previous papers we worked with or just asking for help or clarification. Introduction: On October 3rd, at approximately 11:30 p.m., I had the opportunity to interview one of my neighbors whom I will call Alex, in order to keep anonymity. Now, I only have known Alex since the beginning of the year. What I initially learned about her was that her parents immigrated to the United States from Bulgaria; she lived in the United States, specifically Texas, until she was ten years old. Then her family immigrated to England, where they have been living for the last eleven years. For this reason, I concluded that she would be an interesting interviewee when asked about one’s linguistic identity.
This semester was filled with many bumpy roads. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with my writings , as I didn 't feel confident enough to write a well developed writing. I seemed to find myself struggling whereas writing was not my favorable subject. The major errors I had in my writings this semester would be , grammatical errors,work citations, transition words, formatting ,paragraph development, sentence structure , and sentence level issue. Therefore I have set goals to improve my writing in the future.
A language sample analysis (LSA) is a tool that generates the coding and transcriptions of a language sample to document the language used every day in various speaking situations (Miller, Andriacchi, & Nockerts, 2016). Language samples are typically 50-100 words in length and are voice-recorded and then transcribed by the clinician. Language samples are done using spontaneous speech, such as typical conversation, or narrative contexts, such as story or event recalls (Miller, Andriacchi, & Nockerts, 2016). The speech-language pathologist (SLP) will take the recording and write out, in the exact words of the child and clinician, every utterance (Bowen, 2011). The SLP will then "code" the sample.
In my first term here, at University of the People, one of my biggest issues was with conciseness; I was obsessed with clarity, but at a sacrifice of concise wording. I like to think that I have grown since then and that my papers and assignments reflect this, by getting to the point more quickly and
I chose this writing assignment because I did not successfully address the prompt, and I feel like it is important I understand what really was being asked for this assignment. At first I was really overwhelmed because it was the first assignment and the process was confusing to me somehow at that time. When it came to rewriting, I re-read the prompt, notes, process done, and comments to see where I did not follow the process. I went back to change my arguments more into how this affects the audience. For strengths, my evidence is still strong, but as a weakness I still not a hundred percent sure it flows well.

Learning a second language at a younger age is beneficial Most little kids first day of school is when they are approximately five years old, and about to enter kindergarten. Kids go to school from about age five till graduation from high school at about age eighteen. Most schools focus on the basic core subjects, such as math, reading, science and history. Until junior high or high school, foreign language is not even offered.
