College. It’s part of the American Dream. Do well in school, attend a good college, get a job to support 2.5 children and to pay off a home in the suburbs. However, college to high schoolers today seems more daunting and unattainable than ever. With an increasingly competitive environment, rising university costs, decline of financial aid, and a job market that is less than promising, the process has become more stressful than hopeful.
Is college worth your time to be successful? Many will argue it is, like me, others will argue it is not, and some may be stuck in between. Parents always want the best for their children and their future. As mentioned in the essay background, “A recent Pew Research study found that 94 percent of parents expected their children to go to college.” Going to college gives you the opportunity to get a good career, leads you to a better future, and if you can’t afford it, there are community colleges.
Today more and more people are going to college. Most people go to college to build their knowledge and to study a specific field that they want to get a job in some day. College is marketed to most people as a creative place where they will learn everything they need to know to get a job and enter the “real world”. As college students right now, don’t get us wrong we do learn many things but, we have found that in many classes we take, we just focus on getting a good grade or a passing grade. At the end of the semester we walk out of some class barely learning a thing because we retain information just long enough to do good on a test or exam and then forget it all together when the class is done.
Why did all of a sudden beliefs become necessary in college? Beliefs are valuable to live life and are personal. However after reading a chapter from a book called College Thinking: How to Get the Best Out of College, by Jack Meiland, Meiland presented a variety of points discussing the importance of having reasoning to their beliefs and claims. His statements are agreeable and appealing for the reason for being a high school student and soon to be a college student. Meiland reveals that beliefs play a significant role when elaborating the differences between the idea that high school is the basis of authority and college is the basis of reasoning.
College is a new world. College isn't like high school where we can easily cheat in class or copied someone's homework. College is all about working towards being someone in life. College is about discovering more about ourselves and pushes us beyond our boundaries. It about being financially stable and able to take care ourselves and our family.

From the early universities of Harvard and Yale to newer institutions like Rice University and UCLA, colleges have been part of American life for generations, and those with degrees carry them as a symbol of pride and success. However, those living in the 21st century are starting to question the role that colleges have established for themselves. Delbalco proclaims three major arguments in favor of a college degree, which include economic, political, and self-development factors. The newer generation may not be getting higher education compared to the former. Delanco expresses his personal concern about the fact that American High Education is suffering from a calamity. He says “college doors” remain closed for numerous students.
Personality Traits for Being Successful in College There are hundreds of personality traits that can describe a single person. Some traits are more dominate than others. However, I cannot just be described in just one word, because I am more than just one. I am adventurous; organized, passionate; reliable, resourceful and many more.
What can college success be defined as? Most factors lead to success in college, and identifying the positive influences is important to serve as a guide for college students who want to achieve their educational goals and to serve as a guide for parents who desire college education for their children. There are some people who believe that college is not worth it and should just get a job after high school. Then there are some people who believe that you should go to college right after high school because it would help them get a great job that pays more than those who do not go to college. However there are three factors that are most likely to lead to college success, such as motivation, being a role model, and future.
Academic success is very important to have a successful career later in life. In order to have academic success I will need to change many things and the way I do those things. I do not get the work that I need to do. Some of the areas that I need to work on to have academic success is time management, organization, getting a job, finding a career, and many other things. Time management is a large part of helping me succeed.
Being a Successful College Student Because College is important, I will be a successful student by overcoming my challenges, by listening to advice from the experts, and developing effective strategies. I have challenges I need to overcome in order to be a successful student in college. One of my issues I face on a daily bases is that I have learning disabilities and mental disorders. I always thought that I was completely normal until one day I went to a physiatrist who thought otherwise. From that day forward, I was on different type of ADHD stimulants such as Concerta and Ritilan to try to control my outbursts and behavior in class.
In this day and age, succeeding without a college degree seems outlandish and impossible. While that means a dedication to education for those still undergoing their studies, it often means returning to or starting college for adults well over college age. Beginning at roughly age twelve, children of the millennial generation are told to decide what they want in life as early as possible and to commit to at least a college level education; if they do not, they will not be able to succeed. Pressures of that aside, if this stigma proves true, what happens to the previous generation, for whom college was a choice? Are they doomed to fail?
College it is this big thing with a lot of people, they tell you that you need to go to college and there is no way you are getting out of going to college. College is what we need nowadays, you need college to get a job, so people can take you seriously. We spend twelve years of our life in school, just to be rewarded with more school. They drive the fact that we all need to go to college if we want a great future, but do they really prepare us enough for college. When we are in school they prepare us for college by preparing us for success, what exactly do we need to success?
Self-discipline is the power to help you stay with your decisions and let you go along with it, without having to change your mind, and therefore, it is one of the most important requirements goals to achieve. This is a skill which allows you to kick start the way you make decisions and helps you plan and strive until you have accomplished it. It also is an inner strength of a manifest of helping yourself to overcome laziness, addictions, and procrastination, and will go straight forwarded in what your striving for. One of self-discipline characteristic is the ability to remove any instant pleasure and gratification, in replacing it which something that is a greater cause, which is needed to spend more time and effort to gain it. To be successful in life is an ingredient that is very powerful and its self-discipline.
