Many people know about the Middle Ages because of castles. Castles were used in war to defend strongholds from sieges. Living in a castle was a good idea during a time of war because it was well fortified and could withstand attack from powerful war machines, such as a catapult, battering ram, or a trebuchet. It also allowed the people inside to easily defend it if there was a siege. It also had enough room to keep peasants and servants safe from the war. Even though it was so good at many things, castles still had their faults. For example let 's say somebody got a cold inside the castle.
