According to “China: The Educated Giant” by Kristof, American government needs to learn from the Chinese education system in order to meet the competition with China. Chinese students usually study hard, because in China the hardest students are considered the best in school. In contrast, mediocrity is acceptable in America schools. Therefore, American students spend too much time watching TV instead of doing homework. Moreover, Chinese government allocates more resources into education compare to American government.

After reading the book, it comes off with strong viewpoints, and makes you think critically about our education system. It highlights the PISA tests, both praised and criticized for their ability to calculate the knowledge and creativity and individual possesses. The book also features a unique narrative style involving three students from America embarking on journeys as “correspondents” to three of the tops ranking PISA countries.

The author quickly grasps the attention of the reader by presenting three unlikely candidates, Finland, Poland, and South Korea, as her main role models of a good educational system that the modern world should learn from.

High school students in America score are well below the average international score, which is worrying for a country like USA. But what is holding back American teenagers? Everything seems to be up for grabs for American high school students, which reflects the First Lady’s speech at an education event with DC High School Sophomores.
America’s education system today is in a state of disrepair. The children are either not being taught enough or taught unnecessary information excessively. We rely on two types of education institutions; charter and public schools. For those are more privileged financially, there are private schools available. Diane Ravitch wrote “The Myth of Charter Schools” to provoke the undermining idea that charter schools are far more superior than public schools.
How to Change the American Education System It has been proven by numerous studies that America has continually not reached the top ten in the most intelligent students and people in general. Most of the studies show that the United States is as low as 17th in the categories of math and science and reading comprehension. This is astonishing considering the amount of money that is spent on the ever-growing education system in place. Which brings up the question: what do we need to change about our current system in order to improve our rank in these subjects?
Each of the three countries brings something unique to the table that we the United States could potentially benefit from. Finland's success seems to come from both the length that a specific teacher is around a student and the emphasis that is placed on student comfort. Another piece of their education that's important to note is the fact that all teachers must have a masters degree in order to teach in any setting. In most schools, at least in the United States, we have a specific teacher for a single year and then move on to another. If a student has a particular teacher that they really enjoyed learning from, they'll still be forced to move on to another, which may be a teacher whose style doesn't work particularly well with them.
Place value is the most essential skill required in order to comprehend our base ten system. It helps you understand the meaning of a number. My 4th grade class will be learning about place value. Most of the students will achieved the level with place value during the school year. I will be going over the content during the beginning of the school year.
Despite spending most days in my own home advancing my education, instead of engaging in the publicly provided schools, there are certain days of the week, which days are of less importance, when I venture out on various errands in the city. On these errands, I often run into individuals in my peer group who have just left the local secondary school. They sit, or stand, loitering near stores and in parking lots without any motivation to go home and continue their education through assigned studies. When I ask them why this is, they simply respond that they find the work monotonous and pointless. If you needed algebra to do your job, learn it when that occurs, don’t waste time learning things you can just forget after the school year is over.

One explanation is that, unlike in the United States, children do not begin attending school until the age of seven. Finland’s education system believes that allowing their children to “be children” by playing and exploring is a very important aspect in learning and developing properly. On the contrary, many Americans feel that our educational system forces maturity on children
Although we have free public schools it doesn’t mean we have the brightest students in the world. This is because a free education is not parallel with a good education. In the American educational system today students are not good at learning topics. This is due to standardized testing and memorized based tests no one can really deeply understand topics. In an society where people focus on results society tends to loss track in the middle.
There is a third reason which is the Most important reason, is to get a great picture of the cultural diversity of the United States of America. Knowledge of others, their cultures, their sciences and way of life, is useful for learning about a new culture. Some cultures have good qualities and bad recipes, or perhaps do not fit the nature of our lives. For example, my presence in America has made me learn a lot of American cultures that if I find them in my country and may be useful to me or in raising my children such as opening the door to the person walks behind me, honestly I like this behavior which I miss this in my country. In general, the idea of quoting the culture that suits our societies may help us to develop from the reality of our lives.
Education The purpose of education can vary for every person, but in the beginning the focus is more on developing the basic skills to read and write. Once a person gets older and decides what their goal is in life the schooling than changes to that certain academic practice that they want to become. Teachers in elementary education, develop the knowledge to teach the students the basic necessities for secondary schooling.
Education is essential for everyone. It is the level of education that helps people earn respect and recognition. Education has been seen as “a critical tool in the transformation towards sustainability” (Firth & Winter, 2007).
