Let’s look at what happen post 9/11. After it’s devastation, the Department of Homeland Security was created to assist in fighting the “war” against terrorism. The DHS implemented many “strategies” to help fight this war, including increasing airport security. American parents protested that TSA agents were groping their kids, and “(Janet) Napolitano (former DHS Secretary) defiantly retorted that if people did not want their children groped, they should yield and use the unpopular full-body machines – the machines being sold by her predecessor, (Michael) Chertoff” (Turley, 3).
As a member of the Homeland Security Assessment Team for our organization, we will attempt to build a program that will allow us to meet the goals of our business plan as well as the needs of our Homeland Security Assessment that we will create from the results of our evaluation of our organization (Fisher, 2004). We will utilize the Baldridge Criteria to combine our two-goal seeking areas of our business plan as well as our Homeland Security Assessment goals that we are identified at the conclusion of our Homeland Security Assessment. When we do our Baldridge Criteria measurements of our organization we will be able to determine the areas of our organization that we are already protected from weaknesses and vulnerabilities; and will be able
The article “The Lessons of Civil Defense Federalism for the Homeland Security Era” by Patrick S. Roberts has a huge focus on civil defenders and how the Homeland Security has a role with them. The whole creation of the civil defense era was first established in the 1970s when World War II was happening. The civil defenders are mainly designed to help with safety procedures such as volunteering, working with both local and state organizations and having a role with both fire and flood safety to keep people safe from these emergencies. To add on this is that, the Civil Defenders plays an important part for natural disasters. The reason is that they were able to a lot for the Homeland Security so they can have the ability to be prepared and
In 2002, Canada followed Homeland Security of United States and came up with an immigration plan. The bill was called “Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.” The focus of the bill was to stop people entering Canada and seeking asylum who will endanger the safety of the Canadians. The bill introduced strict law for people who will try to put the life of Canadians at risk. The law allowed immigration to remove people from the country who may pose a threat to the country.
Chapter 11 Homeland Security Web Exercise 1. What are the primary missions of intelligence agencies? The primary mission of intelligence agencies is to collected information outside and inside the borders of the United States, by using people and technology. Intelligence is used to protect the community and the citizens from a horrific incident.
Some people may think that the 14th amendment does a poor job of protecting people’s rights. In document five it explains how on September 11, 2001,with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, it has caused video surveillance in the United States to increase. For example the U.S has programs that use facial recognition that help match photographs of criminals faces to the criminal. Another program that we use helps prevent suicide bombers from attacking. Some people may think that prevention of terrible events reoccuring or occurring is a good thing, but using security systems everywhere may be a violation of their rights and privacy.
Department of Homeland Security: Gaps and Fixes The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had a colorful 14-year history. Many will say that the DHS has created a hulking bureaucracy and has placed or lumped together a great deal of departments that do not have any related functions. DHS currently suffers from a great deal of structural issues, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Transportation Safety Administration, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement are in dire need of Presidential attention. Federal Emergency Management Agency Division of Responsibility
You shouldn’t have to be watched if you aren’t deemed a threat to yourself or society. In my opinion humans are naturally more private creatures that don’t like sharing everything about themselves. The individual right of privacy allows humans to hide somethings about themselves, if it doesn’t seem harmful. However, surveillance is used in public order to observe those that could be plotting against the government, or an attack in the United States. Surveillance has been used to catch and stop many dangerous people who show a threat to the safety of the United States.

They always were sighting the Patriot Act for their reason to continuously add more and more regulations and security technology. When the TSA’s idea of implementing full body x-ray scanners at airport check points became known, there was a loud public outcry against it in the media echoing the citizen’s indignation the mere thought. However, the TSA still moved forward with it and placed the scanners in airports disregarding anything that rose negativity or concerns about their new tool for public
Restricting the use of Racial Profiling Imagine going through Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and being stopped and treated unfairly just because of the color of your skin and the way you dress. Imagine being stopped at a red light for no particular reason besides “driving while black” or being Hispanic and getting asked to show the officer your “papers” or a green card. Racial profiling has always been prominent, but is very unjust and a violation of people’s civil rights. Racial profiling should be performed in certain medical circumstances, such as giving out precautions about a disease that’s predominant amongst a certain race, rather than knowingly acting on a whim or irrational fear.
Are random photographs an invasion of privacy? The point is intelligence collectors are not interested in the daily communications of millions of citizens--they are interested in collecting information on terrorist and criminal activity. If this is the price we have to pay in order to make our country a safer place to live, then people shouldn 't complain. If the alternative is another attack like 9//11, maybe the anti-USA Patriot activists might think twice about their civil liberties. However, the Government is now considering changes to appease the
The United States faces many challenges today. In today’s society, racial profiling and terrorism would be at the top of the list. Racial profiling is widespread and has tremendous effects on the communities of color, national origin, and ethnicity. With the heightened awareness of terrorism in the United States, citizens have become fearful of other races and ethnicities.
James A. Forbes, an interdenominational minister in New York, once said, “When people rely on surface appearances and false racial stereotypes, rather than in-depth knowledge of others at the level of the heart, mind and spirit, their ability to assess and understand people accurately is compromised.” Forbes is saying that many humans judge by the color of the skin on the outside, rather than the fact that there is no difference on the inside. Humans also rely on the actions of those before that person with the same skin color. Unfortunately, humans do not try to get to know who a person really is and the personality of that person, they just assume that all African Americans are alike and not their own person. Statistics state that minority
if there are mutations to live at high altitudes, it will increase quantity in survival of infants, if those who have a mutation pass it on to their offspring, in a certain way, all the good mutations in a single individual, producing a living being with great success, and relegate all bad mutations to another, which will not get offspring, so that bad mutations will disappear from the population. Natural selection is only the process of adaptation within a species and many examples of this can be observed. Natural selection allows mutations to pass to the offspring, the conditions of an environment favor or hinder, that is, they select the reproduction of living organisms according to their peculiarities and as a consequence, mutations allow
