The first unit focussed on describing primarily what interpersonal communication is. In class we described interpersonal communication as a ‘face-to-face’ communication. Devito agrees and goes on describing the basic components of interpersonal communication as between two or more individuals, including via the internet or in it person. It also mentions the process and understanding of the elements transmitted and received during the communication, including the “ambiguity”. Meaning,the interpretation of the message changes depending on the person. The “ambiguity”, like Devito says, about the communication reflects on on how easily a message being received from a communication can be altered by noise( that distorts the message) or the lack of understatement of the message. I agree with Devito’s descriptions in this unit, but I think he could improve on specifying more in the part of the replication of the message. This is because I do not totally agree.
Also Devito focusses on the cultural aspect of the communication. It described like we talked in class, about the importance of culture in interpersonal communication. For one to understand this we must first define culture. In class we said that culture is a community of meaning and a shared body of local knowledge. Devito says that is passed from a generation to other by communication. Although varying a little in the definition, the goal is still the same: it focusses on the culture of each individual and the importance. I
